Advent is a period of preparation, extending over four Sundays, before Christmas. The word Advent comes from the Latin advenio, "to come to," and refers to the coming of Christ. This refers, first of all, to our celebration of Christ's birth at Christmas; but second, to the coming of Christ in our lives through grace and the Sacrament of Holy Communion; and finally, to His Second Coming at the end of time.
This Sunday, 30th November, is the first Sunday of Advent. We light the first purple candle, typically called the "Prophecy Candle" in remembrance of the prophets, especially Isaiah, who foretold the birth of Christ. This first candle represents hope or expectation in anticipation of the coming Messiah.
Please enjoy this 2 minute clip as a family, exploring the meaning of Advent and some practical things you can do to prepare for the coming of Christ.
Students are invited to our Christmas Disco (see relevant date below). Both discos will be held in our Primary Campus Hall.

Dress up in Christmas colours/attire! All money raised will go to St. Vincent de Paul, to help people in our local community.
DISCO ENTRY: $2
Please note students will be able to also purchase drinks and chips on the night.
Chips: $1 per packet
Water: $2
Chill J: $3
Bags of lollies: $1

Note: the usual Primary Kiss & Drop (from Wongala Street) is not open for use during either disco.

Father Roel has asked for children to volunteer for our Annual Parish Nativity Play, for the Christmas Eve Children's Mass at 6.00pm. They will be prepared at school over the coming weeks. Please email Mrs Clarke at sclarke@arm.catholic.edu.au if your child would like to participate.

With just one week to go, please give generously to our annual St. Vincent de Paul Christmas Hamper Appeal. We ask all students and families to donate non-perishable food items that can be put into a Christmas hamper to help those families in our community who are struggling. Donations can be made to the class teachers or at either school office by Friday 5th December.
Can all Confirmation Candidates please check if they have accidentally taken home the white sash on loan for the Confirmation Mass? We have two missing. If found, please return it to the school as soon as possible. Thank you!

Overdue library notices will be coming home this week as we prepare for our annual stocktake. These notices list any books that are currently overdue for each student.
We’d love to have all overdue books returned by the end of next week - Friday 28th November.
If your child brings home a notice, we’d really appreciate your help in searching for the missing books - check around the house, in bookshelves, packing boxes, or anywhere they might have been tucked away - and sending them back to the library as soon as possible.
Students are welcome to return books any day of the week, they don’t need to wait until their usual library day.
If you believe a mistake has been made, students are very welcome to pop into the library so they can help locate the book in our system. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at cmichell@arm.catholic.edu.au
We encourage students to continue reading during the school holidays. St Edward's students have access to SORA, an online library offering a wide range of eBooks, audiobooks, and magazines. To log in from home, students will need their school email address and password, which can be obtained from their teacher. Below are instructions for logging into SORA.
If you experience any issues, please contact cmichell@arm.catholic.edu.au via email.
