Mental Health & Wellbeing

This term, we have begun Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Workshops with our Grade 5/6 students. The workshops are held each Tuesday during the first part of lunch and are an opt-in activity, giving students the choice to join in a relaxed and supportive setting.
Before the sessions began, students were surveyed about the topics they would most like to learn more about. The majority of students identified peer pressure as an important area to explore. As a result, our current workshops focus on helping students recognise different forms of peer pressure, develop strategies to make positive choices, and build the confidence to stay true to their values.
To support this learning, students also have access to a fact sheet that reinforces the key ideas from the sessions. This resource can be revisited at any time, allowing students to reflect and apply the strategies in their daily lives.
Looking ahead, the workshops will cover a range of other important areas, including:
- Bullying: understanding what bullying is, how to respond safely, and how to be an upstander.
- Friendships: building positive relationships, managing conflict, and recognising healthy vs. unhealthy friendships.
- Internet Safety: making safe choices online, protecting personal information, and knowing where to get help.
- Social Media: understanding the impact of social media, balancing screen time, and navigating online interactions responsibly.
