Maths Challenge

Congratulations to Grade 1/2  Edwards for winning this fortnight's Maths Challenge!

Here is our next Maths Challenge for the term!

This fortnight...

In the Classroom

It has been an exciting and enriching fortnight in Grade 5/6, with a wonderful mix of literacy, history, wellbeing, and mathematics activities keeping us all engaged and inspired.Last week, we celebrated Book Week, and our students thoroughly enjoyed exploring and critiquing the shortlisted Children’s Book of the Year nominees. They have been discussing themes, characters, and author choices, as we evaluated each book ourselves. Another highlight of the week was Friday’s Book Week Dress-Up Day, where students showed their creativity and enthusiasm with their costumes and parade—what a colourful and fun day! Thanks to everyone for helping kids get these together for the day.

We were also fortunate to have an author visit from Alice Peel of Grow Your Mind. Alice spoke with the students about her book, How to Be a Fantastic Sensational Good Enough Kid, focusing on wellbeing and the long-term impact of quick dopamine hits from sugar, social media, and technology on resilience and mental health. It was an inspiring session that prompted some important conversations about managing habits, building resilience, and taking care of our minds.

In addition to these exciting events, students have continued to focus on summarising and making sense of history texts, linking their reading and writing skills to our Topic work on Australia’s colonisation. They have been practising how to identify key information, summarise complex ideas, and communicate their understanding clearly.

In Maths, we have continued to develop our understanding of fractions. Students have been refining their skills in comparing, adding, subtracting, and representing fractions in different ways. Hands-on activities, games, and problem-solving tasks have supported their learning, helping them see the practical applications of fractions in everyday life.

Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to another engaging fortnight ahead!

Regards,

5/6 Team
