Year 1 Excursion

Earlier this term, we were lucky enough to go exploring at the Perth Zoo as part of our writing hook for animal information reports. The students could hardly wait to begin their adventure, and as soon as we arrived, we broke off into small groups to explore!
We wandered through the Deep Dark Woods in search of Gruffalos, visited the Dinosaurs, and discovered the habitats of many amazing animals. From giraffes and monkeys to reptiles and kangaroos, there was something exciting to see around every corner. We were also lucky to hear some of the Zoo Educators share fascinating facts about the creatures we met along the way.
Before heading back to school on the bus, the students were treated to a ride on the merry-go-round. This tied in beautifully with our HASS learning about toys from the past – it was so special to see an old-fashioned toy in real life and enjoy it together.
The fun didn’t stop there! Back at school the next day, our teachers surprised us with a “paint and sip” session. While sipping on juice, we painted our favourite animal from the zoo. It was a creative and relaxing way to reflect on our adventure and the perfect end to a wonderful week.
A big thank you to all our parent helpers who joined us and helped make our excursion such a success.
