Wear it Purple Day

The Student Representative Council (SRC) was proud to organise and host a fabulous celebration for Wear It Purple Day at school this year, which we held on Monday, 25th August. Our event was a huge success, bringing students and staff together to show visible support for young LGBTQIA+ people and to stand up for inclusion, diversity and respect.

Wear It Purple Day is an important reminder of the need to create safe and supportive environments for LGBTQIA+ youth, and to challenge the harmful attitudes and stereotypes that still exist in society today. It’s about celebrating individuality and working together to build a world where everyone feels seen, valued and accepted for who they are.

To mark the occasion, the SRC planned a range of engaging activities for lunch time including:

  • Nail painting

  • Hair braiding and curling

  • Pride Bingo

  • Jewelry making

  • Card making

The event created a positive and inclusive atmosphere, with students of all year levels getting involved and showing their support.

The SRC would like to thank everyone who participated in and contributed to the success of this important event, especially our SRC Coordinator, Ms Erjavec and the many other staff that came along to braid hair, help with jewelry making and many other activities. It’s events like these that help shape a kinder, more inclusive school community, and the SRC looks forward to continuing this vital work throughout the year.

Celebrating women through art: IWD Mural project Update

Over the past two terms, our Art & Design Captain, Cheryl Chow, has continued her incredible work on the International Women’s Day mural - a project that celebrates the strength, love and impact of women in our lives.

What began as a school-wide initiative in Term One, where students wrote heartfelt messages on colourful heart-shaped notes to honour a woman they admire, is now taking shape as a powerful and visually striking mural. Cheryl has dedicated months to this project, working tirelessly every week to carefully place every heart with intention and creativity.

In designing the mural, Cheryl carefully brought the most impactful words to the forefront, while ensuring the colours remain balanced and cohesive throughout the piece. Her thoughtful approach has resulted not only in a visually striking artwork, but also in a design that highlights the students' messages of gratitude at its core.

Once complete, the mural will tour all of our sub-schools, becoming Pakenham Secondary College's first touring artwork

A huge congratulations and thank you to Cheryl for her vision, dedication and artistry. We can’t wait for the school community to see the finished mural next term.

Composting Project Launches at PSC

We’re excited to announce the launch of our brand-new Composting Project, led by our dedicated Community Connections Captains, Ruby Vangeninden and Gracie Brooks. This student-led sustainability initiative aims to reduce food and organic waste across the College while promoting environmentally conscious habits within our community.

As part of the project, every staffroom at PSC has been equipped with a new compost caddy to collect compost-friendly waste. Each Friday, without fail, Ruby and Gracie will visit staffrooms to collect the contents, dispose of it responsibly in our newly installed 400L compost bins located around A Block, and return the caddies clean and ready for use.

We’re incredibly proud of Ruby and Gracie’s commitment to sustainability and student leadership, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact this project will have on our school community and the environment.
