New PSC Sub School in 2026
Our College continues to grow as more families choose to be part of our wonderful school community. In 2022, our enrolment stood at approximately 785 students across Years 7–12. By 2026, this number is expected to reach around 1,150 students.
To support this growth, we are excited to announce the introduction of a new sub-school in 2026, named ‘Murnong’. The name comes from the Boon Wurrung language and refers to the Murnong Daisy.
The naming of our new sub-school was undertaken in consultation with our Student Representative Council and our Koorie Engagement Support Officer, ensuring that both student voice and cultural perspectives were at the heart of the decision. The name honours the rich cultural heritage of the Boon Wurrong people and their deep connection to the land. The Murnong Daisy, known for its beauty and resilience, symbolises growth, renewal, and strength - qualities we see in our students every day.
Our College is surrounded by native vegetation, and like these plants, our students are growing, adapting and striving to reach their potential. The name Murnong reflects our commitment to nurturing this growth, deepening our connection with the natural environment, and showing respect for the culture and land on which we learn.
Information Night & Transition Days
We would like to invite all parents and carers of our Year 7 2026 students to attend an Information Night on Wednesday, 15th October. Students are also welcome to attend.
Important transition information will be provided on the night, including a presentation by Edunet, our preferred education laptop provider.
The Information Session will take place in our Gymnasium and will commence at 6pm. The evening should conclude by 7:15pm.
Tuesday 9th December is the State-wide Orientation Day for the 2026 Year 7 students. To make the transition as stress free for your child as possible, we will also have an extra Transition Day on Monday, 8th December. We understand that some primary schools may have events on this day, however, we do encourage students to attend. For further information, please visit our website at: pakenhamsc.vic.edu.au/transition
Extra Transition Sessions for Year 6 2025 Students
We are also pleased to offer extra transition sessions for Grade 6 2025 students who are enrolled to attend Year 7 2026 at Pakenham Secondary College.
These extra sessions are designed to support a smoother transition to secondary school by hopefully easing any nerves students are facing by moving to a new school.

Social Media Laws
Got social media? If you’re under 16, things are about to change!
Australia’s new laws aim to keep young users safer online.
Here’s what you need to know.
What Are the New Social Media Laws?
Australia has introduced a groundbreaking law that bans children under 16 from using major social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat. This law, known as the Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Act 2024, is set to take effect in December 2025. The government aims to protect young people from online harms such as cyberbullying, exposure to inappropriate content and mental health issues related to social media use.
Wait, Why Is This Happening?
Research indicates that a significant number of Australian teenagers have encountered
harmful content online. A recent report found that two-thirds of Australian teens faced
online risks last year, highlighting the urgent need for stricter regulations. The new law
places the responsibility on social media companies to ensure users are above the age
of 15, aiming to create a safer online environment for young Australians.
What Does This Mean for You?
If you're under 16, you won't be able to create or maintain accounts on major social media platforms starting in December 2025. Platforms will implement age verification measures, such as facial recognition or ID scanning, to enforce this rule. While some platforms are lobbying for exemptions, the eSafety Commissioner has recommended including YouTube in the ban due to its widespread use among children and associated risks.
What Can You Do?
Stay Informed: Keep up with updates from the eSafety Commissioner.
Engage in Discussions: Talk to your peers and teachers about the implications of these laws and share your thoughts.
Explore Alternatives: Look into other platforms and activities that promote creativity and social interaction without the risks associated with traditional social media.
