Year 5/6

English
We are finalising our class text for the term, Tom Appleby - Convict Boy. Students have engaged in a number of literary skills such a vocabulary and summarising throughout the unit and have created a number of text responses that demonstrate their understanding of the novel. Over the next few weeks we will be looking at biographies, students will research a famous inventor and write a structured piece of writing about their life, inventions and other notable experiences.
Maths
This term for maths we have engaged in a number of topics across different strands of Numeracy. Fractions, decimals, measurement and we are about to begin our final unit on Time. Students will be reading both analog and digital time, calculating elapsed time and and converting between a.m and p.m and 24 hour time.
Humanities
This term, our Humanities students have explored some of the most important moments in Australia’s history. They’ve wrapped up their learning about the First Fleet and Federation, developing a solid understanding of the significant events, people, and ideas that shaped our nation. It’s been fantastic to see students engage thoughtfully with Australia’s past and make connections to how these events have influenced our present.
To finish the term, we are shifting our focus to Digital Technologies. Students will take on the exciting challenge of designing their own app! They will explore how to create effective user interfaces, apply design principles, and consider the best ways to make apps engaging and user-friendly. This project will encourage creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking as students bring their ideas to life.
We’re looking forward to seeing their innovative app designs and the creative solutions they develop.
Basketball
A number of our students represented the school for Inter-school Basketball last week. Mr Jacobs, Jaz, Louis and our student teacher Zach coached out four teams and were so proud by the way our students represented the school on and off the court.
Book Week
We were thrilled with the engagement from out Year 5/6 students with Book Week this year. We engaged with a number of different award-nominated picture story books over the course of the week and we would like to thank our families for their support with the Book Week Parade.
