Melbourne Stars Visit Trafalgar Primary School

On Friday 29 August, Trafalgar Primary School was lucky enough to welcome players from the Melbourne Stars cricket squad as part of their Regional Roadshow.

Our Grade 3 students and Sport and House Captains took part in a one-hour session that included a player Q&A, the Big Bash Challenge, and plenty of opportunities to interact with the players. Students also enjoyed some giveaways and a few even had the chance to have their official Melbourne Stars merchandise signed.

It was a fantastic experience for our students to learn more about cricket, meet professional players, and be inspired to stay active and involved in sport. We thank Cricket Victoria and the Melbourne Stars for making this opportunity possible.

Junior Swimming Program Wrap-Up

Our Foundation to Grade 2 students have successfully completed this year’s Junior Swimming Program at Latrobe Leisure Moe Newborough Indoor Pool, and what a splash it was! Over the past weeks, students built their confidence, learned new skills, and most importantly had loads of fun in the water.

The program was filled with laughter, excitement, and plenty of progress as our youngest learners developed their swimming abilities. From first-time swimmers taking brave steps into the pool to confident swimmers fine-tuning their strokes, it was fantastic to see everyone giving their best effort.

Thank you to our families for their support and to the instructors for making each session engaging and enjoyable. Our junior swimmers should be proud of their efforts — we can’t wait to see them continue their swimming journeys in the years ahead!

Auskick Kicks On!

Our first two After-School Auskick sessions have been a huge success, with students from Grades F–6 throwing themselves into the activities and games with plenty of enthusiasm. It’s been fantastic to see students learning new skills, showing off their talent, and—most importantly—having fun with their friends out on the oval.

The excitement doesn’t stop here! We still have three more sessions to come, with our next Auskick afternoons scheduled for:

📅Wednesday 3 September

📅Wednesday 10 September

📅Wednesday 17 September

We look forward to seeing all participants back on the oval as the program continues over the coming weeks.

Trafalgar Lions Club Public Speaking Event

Last Wednesday, Trafalgar Primary School students proudly participated in the Trafalgar Lions Club Public Speaking Event. This annual competition is a wonderful opportunity for students to develop confidence, showcase their public speaking skills, and share their ideas with the wider community.

At the school level, Darcy was crowned the winner of the Year 3/4 section, while Imogen won the Year 5/6 section. Both students were invited to represent Trafalgar Primary School at the regional final, an achievement that reflects their hard work and dedication.

Unfortunately, Darcy was unwell and unable to compete at the next stage. Imogen, however, went on to represent the school with a thoughtful and engaging speech on the impact of technology. Her confidence, preparation, and ability to connect with the audience were highly commendable.

All speakers from across the region delivered outstanding speeches, demonstrating both courage and skill. Competitions like this not only build confidence but also highlight the importance of student voice and expression.

Congratulations to Imogen, Darcy, and all students who participated in this year’s program. Your effort and achievements are something to be truly proud of.

Trafalgar Community Carols Wednesday 3rd Dec

The Trafalgar Community Carols are on 6PM Wednesday 3rd December and the TPS choir will be performing at it

The choir meets second half of lunch on Thursdays. No experience is needed and it costs nothing. More regular attendees are always welcome.

We will be choosing which songs we perform at the carols in the coming weeks.

Instrumental Music

The TPS Instrumental Music Program offers students an extra-curricular experience where students have the fantastic opportunity to learn and play a musical instrument of their choice guided by an expert/professional on their instrument/s.

If you would like to sign up for the Instrumental music program, all our 4 teachers have vacancies. Simply pick up a form from outside the music room or the front office and return it so we can assign you with an instrumental teacher and get started with one on one music lessons.

For more information about the TPS Instrumental program take this link - Instrumental music page - TPS music website.

  • Casey has been on holiday in Europe and will be returning next week. He will make up all missed lessons due to his absence before the end of the year.

Song of the Year

Each week students and staff are voting on 2 songs until a winner is chosen. (16 songs start in the competition).

This year the theme is Music Styles.

All the songs start on the bell music and are deleted as they are eliminated from the competition.

We are up to the grad final - Glam rock - The final countdown (Europe) vs Punk - Sk8er boi (Avril Lavigne)

The winner will be announced by the performing arts captains at this week’s assembly.

Bullying No Way Week at TPS

Trafalgar Primary School joined schools across Australia in celebrating Bullying No Way Week. This is an important week where we take time to talk about what bullying is, why it’s not okay, and how we can all work together to make our school a safe, respectful and inclusive place for everyone.

Throughout the week, students explored this year’s theme: Be Bold, Be Kind, Speak Up. They discussed what it means to stand up for themselves and others, to use kind words and actions, and to speak up by asking for help if they see or experience bullying.

A highlight of the week was the launch of our TPS Bullying Prevention Pledge, created by our Peer Mediators. This pledge is a promise about how we treat each other every day, not just during Bullying No Way Week

Together, we pledged to:

  • Treat people the way I would want to be treated
  • Accept that no one is perfect, but everyone is perfect in their own way
  • Be responsible for my own actions and think before I speak
  • Speak up and ask for help when I see bullying
  • Spread a little bit of kindness every day

To show our commitment, every student and staff member “put their hand up” by tracing, decorating, and signing a paper handprint. These handprints are now proudly displayed in the foyer, creating a colourful wall of pledges that represents our whole school standing together against bullying.

Trafalgar Primary Sees Sea of Blue as Students Rally for Fight MND Fundraiser

Last Friday, Trafalgar Primary School held a unique fundraiser for the charity ‘Fight MND.’

It was wonderful to look out to the students and see a sea of blue! Thank you to everyone who wore blue and donated money to the cause.

A big thankyou to our Junior School Councillors for co ordinating the day and all of their hard work in the weeks before to organise posters, collate their ideas and for their help on the day.

How amazing were our brave ice bucket volunteers?!

THANK YOU to Sickbay Sam, Mrs Nash, Mrs S, Christeena and Ms L. I think we can agree that they looked FABULOUS in their colourful costumes, shower caps and personalised

t-shirts and tutus. They were extremely brave to sit in the ice baths, full of cold water and ice for as long as they did.

As a community, we raised $350-00.

If you would like further information on the Fight MND charity, here is the link

Thank you once again for your wonderful support. Our next exciting event will be Footy Colours Day, happening on the last Thursday of term, September 18th.   Every student will be lucky enough to receive a special Footy Colours Day cookie, thanks to our Parents and Friends Committee.

From your Junior School Councillors and Mrs Sneddon.

Book Week 2025 at Trafalgar Primary School:

An Epic Adventure in Reading

This year's Book Week theme, "Book an Adventure," transformed Trafalgar Primary School into a gateway to countless exciting journeys and discoveries. From August 23rd to August 29th, students and staff embarked on literary adventures that showcased the thrilling possibilities that await within the pages of books.

The week was packed with adventurous activities that celebrated the excitement of exploration through reading. Our costume parade was a spectacular sight, with students and staff dressed as intrepid explorers, brave adventurers, mythical creatures, and beloved characters from adventure stories. The adventure theme inspired an incredible variety of costumes, from pirates and astronauts to jungle explorers and fantasy heroes, and it was amazing to see the imagination and enthusiasm everyone brought to their adventurous personas.

Throughout the week, our classrooms became base camps for literary expeditions. Students charted new territories through the pages of adventure novels, discovered hidden treasures in mystery books, and journeyed to distant lands through travel stories and fantasy tales. Each classroom buzzed with the excitement of literary exploration as students shared their favourite adventure stories and recommended thrilling reads to their classmates.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us on this incredible adventure and made Book Week 2025 an unforgettable journey. Let's continue booking new adventures through reading throughout the year!

Drama Concert Success

Our recent Drama Concert was a wonderful success, with the children performing and behaving beautifully on and off the stage. It was especially pleasing to see our new students overcome their nerves and step confidently into their roles. Our senior students also shone behind the scenes, assisting with set changes and supporting the younger performers.

A big thank you goes to Fiona McDonald for the stunning backdrops that added so much colour to our plays, and to Sarah Brown for organising the after party, which was a perfect way to celebrate the evening.

We look forward to seeing our students perform again at Festival on the Lawn in December.  Enrolment forms for Drama are available at the school office for those who would like to join.

Students Share Their Rotary Club Journey

Hi, I'm Amelie and for the past 2-3 terms I've been doing this thing called Rotary. During Rotary, I’ve learnt a lot of things like skills and knowing more about different regions. I’ve also been helping out a lot from my favourite sports to being in the canteen early in the morning. Doing Rotary takes time and effort, but along the way it's an amazing opportunity to experience. I’ve enjoyed doing Rotary and I suggest everyone should have a go at it, but Rotary is only for people in year six. I'm also pretty sure, if you enjoy it a lot, you can do more Rotary in high school or later in life. Overall, I have enjoyed the experience of doing Rotary and seeing the skills I have gained over a short period of time.

Amelie

Hi, I'm Phoebe J and I am going to be telling you a bit about what Junior Rotary is about.

Skills

There are a lot of things that you could possibly do for the skills part of Rotary. For example, I'm doing dance teaching for my skill but there are also many, many more things that you could do.

Arts

There are tons of things that you could do for the arts part of the Rotary award. For example, I am taking art classes, but you could do other things such as make bracelets or something like that, but whatever you do you just have to enjoy it.

Sports

There are more than 100 sports that you could possibly do for the sports section of the Rotary award. For example, I'm doing dance but my friend Emily is doing soccer so they are two very different sports, but you could do many, many other sports like netball, horse riding, basketball etc.

Community Volunteering

There are a lot of things that you could do for the community volunteering section of Rotary. I am helping out by clearing tables at the Trafalgar Bowls Club which is quite fun. There are also many, many other things that you could possibly do for that section of the Rotary award as well.

Fun

There's no doubt about this. Having fun is the biggest part of being involved in Rotary and that is why a lot of people end up doing Rotary in the first place.

I hope you liked my newsletter article about what the Rotary club is all about. It can be hard, but I think that if you have faith, you will have fun. Just so you know, I did for a fact try it and had fun too.

Breakfast Club

It has been wonderful to welcome students and families back to Breakfast Club this term!  We have had so many students visit us in the mornings for delicious toasties, cereals and hot milos to help kick start their learning day.  We are so thankful for the many generous food donations provided by the community and from our sponsors - Foodbank, IGA Trafalgar, Bakers Delight Mid Valley and Gracie’s Bakery.

Due to these donations, Breakfast Club continues to be able to support families through the provision of Care Packages.  We remind families that our Traf Pantry can be found in the Gym Foyer and continues to be stocked with many excellent products, available to anyone - and they’re free!  If you would like to receive a Care Package or know of a family who may benefit, feel free to drop into our School Office, or see Mrs Marslen.

Donations of Milo needed, please!

Thank you again to all families who have generously donated tins of Milo to our Breakfast Club.  Any extra donations of Milo would be greatly appreciated to support our school community!

Looking forward to seeing you for brekky!

STEM update:

Preps 1’s and 2’s have been investigating the seasons, including indigenous seasons, and connecting this to fruit and vegetable prices (food miles) and availability.

Here is the link to our Apple crumble in a mug recipe: https://www.yellowblissroad.com/microwave-apple-crisp-in-a-mug/

We have also learnt about the interactions between Earth and the Sun as well as constellations in the night sky. Students were sent home with a constellations checklist and encouraged to head out on a clear night and spend some time under the stars.

Grade 3 and 4’s have taken a deep dive into the water cycle and participated in a simulation of the available drinking water on Earth, leading us to understanding the importance of water conservation.

Next week is all about rocks! If students have any awesome samples they would like to share with us at school please bring them along best week.

Grade 5 and 6’s made a model of the structure of our Earth and did some research focused on the positive and negative consequences of natural disasters. This led us to our investigations on tectonic plates and continental drift.

A reminder to check out the compass post about our metal recycling fundraiser.

Yours in STEM education,

Mrs B
