Physical Education

Hi Families,

Wow it is hard to believe we are almost at the end of term 3, but it has been jam packed with lots of new things in PE and interschool sport opportunities.

2025 Dates for the diary:

Term 3:

Thursday 11th September - District Athletics (selected students)

Term 4:

Monday 20th October - Division Basketball (1 x girls and 1 x boys team) and Division Hot Shots (1 x boys team)

Thursday 23rd October - Division Volleyball (1 x girls team)

Friday 31st October (TBC) - Division Cricket (1 x mixed team)

Thursday 6th November - Twilight Sports 4-7pm

District Basketball - Yr 5&6

A huge thank you to all of the teachers and parents that volunteered their time to help on Friday! It was a huge day with 13 teams, so without parents putting up their hands this day can not go ahead and run as smoothly as it seemed to.  Thank you to Craig, Kristy, Ash, Clemi, Hunter, Vali, Amy and Mick for your assistance, greatly appreciated.

It was an intense ending to the day with two SJV teams through to the finals.  The girls unfortunately lost their final, but the KPS team had been dominant the entire day, so to keep them to only 10 points loss was a huge achievement.  Top 2 go through from the day so they have progressed through to the Division finals.

The SJV boys team had a big end, going into overtime and winning by 2 points.  Was a great achievement and I have never heard a stadium so quiet when players going for free throws.  It was a great game to watch.  They too go through to Division Basketball on the 20th October.

All students should be so proud of their achievements during the day, some never playing basketball other than what we may have practiced during PE lessons over the years.  It was really great to see as I walked the courts.

Here is some feedback on the day from some of our House and Sport Leaders:

It was very fun and active - Finn

Lots of the games were very competitive - Elsie

Everyone was showing great sportsmanship - Angelina

Everyone had a go, even if they didn’t know how to play - Hula

Everyone tried their best - Jack

Congratulations to everyone for their participation in Hoop Time on Friday. A fun day had by all. Good luck to the boys and girls All Star Teams who progressed through to the next round. They both played hard but fair. A special thank you to all the parents and family members who helped coach on the day. These days do not happen with you - Spencer and Ben

The students also did poetry writing in class this morning with Mr Crowe based on Hoop Time -  Always love merging physical education and literacy 🙂

Hoop Time - from the Basketball Ring’s perspective -By Fox

The player dribbles down with speed

Then with a final spurt

Slams the ball down on my face

I wish it didn't hurt.

2 points are scored through the dunk

The crowd whoops and cheers

But they are far too oblivious

To the ringing in my ears.

Life as a hoop is a painful one

You can't tell me otherwise

When the dunk comes crashing down

They don't see my hidden cries.

But it isn't all so terrible and bad

I still feel joy when they score

And when they slap each other’s backs

And for their victory roars.

At the end of the day when they all leave

And I am left at peace

I remember the games of the day

I am finally at ease.

Hoop Time Poem - By Chloe and Sophie

It’s a new game, my teammate start to cheer.

Makeway, the basketball champs are here.

I bounce the ball, my heart beating fast.

We scored a 3 pointer, finally at last.

My team celebrates as we got the last goal

It’s time to crush the other team’s soul

The whistle blows loud and clear.

Make way the basketball champs are here.

Shwish, Shwash, Swoosh - By Julian And Emerson

Confident, the team strutted onto the court

Shwish, Shwash, Swoosh

The opposers were scoring and leading by two

That gave us a push.

We needed to step up our game

That glory, we needed to claim

We need to score or else we lose

It's time, we had to choose.

Left or right, where do I pass

I was at an impasse

I shoot, I spin “Three pointer,” it goes in

W’s in the chat, we win.

Glory Glory Glory to us

Proud, we get back on the bus

We’re back at school, tired but proud.

Remembering the cheer of the crowd.

Basketball Tops

Please have your students return their washed basketball tops to the PE office this week to ensure we have full sets for next year.

District Athletics Team

Congratulations to the following students that will represent our school in the District Athletics next Thursday 11th September.  All information has been sent via operoo.

Fixtures and additional information on operoo permission forms

It has been brought to our attention that when I add additional information on operoo, like fixtures, after I have sent the operoo out (as usually these are not ready at the time I am sending permissions forms to you), that you are not seeing this information at your end.

I have contacted Operoo (and a parent had already realised this, thank you Belinda) that

to see the updated information you will need to go to CHANGE RESPONSE and resubmit your response in the eform.  Once you have done that, all changes I have made will appear as you will have the most updated version of the form.

I always add fixtures and information as it comes to me in your permission forms and will try and send out a message if I have added new information. However, if time gets away from me, which it usually does, if you do this, I highly recommend you do this on the event day or a couple of days prior, then you should see the information you are looking for.  If you need further assistance, please let me know.

Taekwondo Lessons

We have had Richard come and take our Taekwondo lessons over a number of years.  If you are keen to give Taekwondo a go, this is where he teaches.

Soccer at SJV

We haven't had much of a response to soccer being run at SJV on a Monday evening.  This is a different company to who ran it a few years ago.  If you are keen to see soccer at SJV in term 4, please send your information to the link so we can have something up and running for you.

Have a fabulous week ahead

Stay safe, keep active
