Book Week 2025

Book An Adventure - Book Week 2025

What an absolute joy it has been to see our students swept up in the magic of stories during this year’s CBCA Book Week. The theme, Book an Adventure, has truly inspired our community to explore the wonder, imagination, and creativity that books bring to our lives.

This year teachers and students have thrown themselves into reading and sharing the book week finalists. Each class has been reading the picture books and early readers. It’s so wonderful to see children in all Year groups sharing this rich literature.

Our Year Six Book Week leaders have been outstanding in their leadership this week. Each leader worked with a junior class, planning and delivering a lesson based on one of the shortlisted Book Week texts. The teachers praised them for their maturity, preparation, and ability to connect with the younger students. We could not be prouder of the way they embraced this role and inspired our younger readers.

Snuggle Up & Read

Across the school, children had the opportunity to participate in a special Snuggle Up & Read session. These sessions gave students the chance to wind down, relax, and immerse themselves in their favourite stories alongside their peers. It was especially delightful to see not just our Prep and Year Five buddies spending the afternoon together, but also the Year 6 and Year 1’s reconnect with their buddies from last year. They enjoyed the weather,  sharing snacks and reading their favourite books with one another. The atmosphere was a true celebration of the simple magic of reading.

Creative Responses

The teachers have been exceptional in preparing creative activities in response to the books they have shared. The Preps made Tooth Fairy Bags and Worry Stones in response to 'Don’t Worry Felix' and the 'Tooth Fairy Book'. Year 1 made gardens in response to 'The Garden of Broken Things', Year 2 decorated the playground with buses from, 'We Live on a Bus'. In the senior school Year 3, drew their favourite memories as a response to 'These Long Loved Things' and Year 4 used watercolour to illustrate their memories. Year 5 and 6 created beautiful picture books, with themes of courage, kindness and friendship. We shared these with our buddies today.

Dress Up Parade

A heartfelt thank you to our school community for the enthusiasm and effort put into our Book Week Parade. The creativity on display was extraordinary, and as always, the parade was a highlight of the week! We know that behind the scenes there can be some sewing and costume panics, but the smiles and excitement on the day make it all worthwhile.

Special thanks to our Year Six leaders who planned, wrote, and confidently delivered the Book Week assembly with such energy and spirit. Events like this allow our students to shine in different ways, and it was wonderful to celebrate their efforts. Congratulations to the winners in each year level for their most creative costumes—and a big cheer for our teachers who joined in the fun with such enthusiasm! We are truly fortunate to have such a vibrant and supportive community at St Joseph’s.
