Last week, Grade 5 learnt about the inspiring life of Mary MacKillop as part of our preparation for her feast day and the school's Archibald Art Competition.
We began by listening to a podcast that highlighted key moments from her journey, from her early life to becoming Australia’s first saint. Students practised their note-taking skills while listening, identifying the most significant parts of her story and reflecting on her courage, compassion, and dedication to helping others. These notes then guided students as they designed their own portraits of Mary MacKillop, thoughtfully incorporating symbols and imagery to represent important events and values from her life, adding depth and meaning to their completed artworks. The finished results look fantastic and will be on display in the coming days for our school community to enjoy.
