Alpine Shire Youth Awards

Last Friday, I was privileged to attend the Alpine Shire Youth Awards, held at the EMPAC in Myrtleford. This event is always a highlight, showcasing the amazing young people we have in the Shire. This year’s event was smaller than usual, with fewer nominees overall, but there was still a strong representation of Mount Beauty’s youth.

Dyllen S helped kick off the evening with a personal Acknowledgement of Country and ex-student and young politician Zoe Kromar was one of the guest speakers. Zoe encouraged everyone to take every opportunity that comes their way. She also highlighted that there will always be people who want to support you because they believe in what you are doing/standing for.

Mount Beauty youth (12 – 21) nominated for awards included: Emily M and Lucy M for the Academic Award; ex-student Noah Tanzen and Oliver A for the Community Award; Dyllen S for the Proud and Deadly Award; Carmela P, Emily M, and Madox G for the Sport and Recreation Award and ex-student Asha Ryder for the Workplace Award.

Winners of their categories were Noah, Dyllen and Asha. Congratulations to all the winners and all the nominees. Receiving a nomination shows the level of effort these young people go to in their areas of expertise and that their dedication is noticed.

Progress Reports and Conferences

The Term 3 end of term (Week 8) Progress Reports will be opened to families for viewing in Compass this afternoon.

Conferences (formerly Parent Teacher interviews) are being held on Tuesday 17th September (in the last week of term) from 4.00 – 7.00pm. Teachers will be available for 10 minute meeting times to discuss your child’s learning progress in their class so far this semester. Bookings will be open from Monday 9th September.

Not all teachers work full time, so there are a number of teachers that are only available for a pro-rated amount of their teaching time at the Conferences. If there is a teacher that you would like to talk to in particular, and can’t manage to get a booking with them, please do not hesitate to email or call them at school, to discuss your child’s learning. It is easier to try to put supports in place earlier, rather than to try to fix a problem if it has been allowed to go on.
