Year 6 Curriculum News
Term 4, 2024
Term 4 is always a busy and fun-filled time of year for Year 6. Amongst many other important Year 6 events we have Camp in Week 6 of the term and Graduation activities at the end of term. We also have our Remembrance Day Ceremony and an excursion to Scienceworks to look forward to.
We eagerly anticipate celebrating the end of the Year 6 students’ BNPS journey with you!
Reading
Students will continue to read, interpret and respond to a wide range of rich literature. They analyse these texts and support interpretations with evidence drawn from the text.
We continue to incorporate SMART Spelling words into our Spelling lists, as well as vocabulary that is specific and relevant to our Units of Inquiry.
The Year 6 students employ a variety of strategies for writing, including note-taking, using models, planning, editing and proofreading. The students will continue working on the six key traits that make up quality writing. The six traits are Ideas, Organisation, Voice, Word choice, Sentence fluency, and Conventions. They will also complete their primary school Memoirs and Harris Burdick short stories.
We will continue to work on Number and Algebra in Term 4. The Year 6 students will also focus on the Measurement, Space and Statistics and Probability strands. During the term the students will have opportunities to work on more investigative and hands on activities related to these strands, such as data collection and representation (surveys, graphs). It is important that the students keep working on their automatic response of all times tables and measurement facts at home. The students will continue to work on Problem solving strategies in class.
