Technology

Term 3 has flown by! We have had lots of fun in Technology and have been so impressed with the learning we’ve seen across all year levels.

PREP: The preps have had lots of fun being engineers and designing robots that can help the environment. We are learning about the Engineering Design Process as we ASK, IMAGINE, PLAN, CREATE, TEST and IMPROVE our ideas. It was fantastic to see the prototypes (mini models) that the prep students created!

GRADE 1 and 2: Over the last few weeks we have been exploring both VEX123 and Cubetto robots. We have revised our knowledge of algorithms (coding), bugs (problems with our code) and how to debug our code so that our robot moves in the right direction. We are so impressed with how well our students can code and debug, as well as how much they have learnt about the hardware and software of the devices we use at Oatlands.

GRADE 3 and 4: We have had lots of fun working through the Engineering Design Process. The grade 3 students have been designing a new or improved gaming console and considering the input/output parts it might have. The grade 4s have been working in small groups to collaborate and share their ideas to create a new marble run. The grade 4s have also been making connections to the science curriculum by considering different forces that are at play and how this can benefit their design.

GRADE 5 and 6: Our senior students have been using the online platform CoSpaces to further develop their coding skills. Using an endangered animal from Australia, that they have learnt about in their class and science lessons, students have created a virtual exhibit to show what they know about their chosen creature, and coded various aspects of their design to be interactive.

We are looking forward to lots of fun in Tech throughout Term 4!
