Stage 3 Camp

In Week 7 of this term, our Stage 3 students attended camp at the Aussie Bush Camp in Lake Macquarie. Students participated in various activities and some of these included the giant swing, high ropes, canoeing, archery and bush craft. Some students took part in the activities with ease, whilst others pushed themselves to test their limits.

A big THANK YOU to Ms Yet Foy, Ms Tran, Mrs Sadek, Mrs Makovski, Mrs Rosewarne, Mr Ma, Mr Matthews, Ms Mascitelli and Ms Papadis for your time, effort and smiles in making camp such a successful and fun experience for our students.

“It was my first ever camp with my first ever Year 6 class and I had so much fun! It was really great to see all students encouraging each other, making memories and challenging themselves in various aspects. Their bravery also inspired me to challenge myself and push my limits, where I took part in ALL the activities (yes, even the giant swing!). Camp is definitely one of my highlights this year”- Ms Tran

“I loved seeing students thrive in a new and challenging environment. Especially those who prefer a more hands-on interactive approach to learning!”- Mr Ma

Year 5 excursion

When robot Roz opens her eyes for the first time, she discovers that she is alone on a remote, wild island. Why is she there? Where did she come from? And, most important, how will she survive in her harsh surroundings?

In Term 1, Year 5 did a book study with the novel “The Wild Robot” by Peter Brown. Students spent the term reading the novel, whilst exploring narrative features and language devices. Students then created their own narrative using a robot as inspiration.

After all their hard work and efforts, students had the incredible opportunity to go and watch the movie that had recently come out in cinemas on Monday 23rd September. What a fantastic experience!

“The movie was really emotional and uplifting. However, it wasn’t exactly the same as the book”- Kashan 5R

“My favourite quote from the movie was- Sometimes to survive, you need to be more than you’re programmed to be”- Anthony 5P

“I enjoyed the movie because it was really educational because the moral of the story is to never give up”- Hannah 5R

“It was exciting to go to the movies with my friends and I liked how it connected to our learning”- Mustapha 5R

“It was really fun because we read the book and it was good to see it in a movie form”- Tegan & Paige 5C

“I loved the quote from the movie- you should always appreciate your parents”- Liyana 5P

“The ending of the movie was really nice. I also enjoyed reading the book first”- David 5P

Police Incursion

On Tuesday 24th of September, our Stage 3 students had a valuable experience where we had Senior Constable Gabirella Di Marino from the police department come in for a talk and share her knowledge in various topics that are relevant for our students.

Year 5 students had a discussion around bullying, being an upstander and a conversation about harassment laws. Whereas Year 6 were involved in a conversation focusing on their transition to highschool and safety around using transport and being online.

On behalf of the teachers at Strathfield South Public School, we extend our appreciation to Constable Di Marino for her time in sharing her expertise and informing our students on how to be safe and successful citizens in our society.
