Stage 1 classrooms have been a buzz with learning both in and beyond the classroom with students actively engaged in a vast range of activities. Throughout the term, both students and teachers alike have worked to strengthen their phonic knowledge with our new vowel dance chant. We have taken the time to review and consolidate our long vowels in year 1 and have begun to learn about schwa in year 2. All students have shared their most persuasive arguments in order to convince us if ants should or should not be squashed after reading the text “Hey Little Ant.” During mathematics we have explored shrinking and growing patterns creating animal stories.

Our geography unit has been filled with excitement as we explored the different connections we have to places around us looking closely at different maps before creating our very own where we have included an effective key! Our term has been sprinkled with speeches for public speaking culminating in our stage final where our judges were dazzled about topics from guitars to pets. We have also actively participated in weekly gymnastics lessons learning about balance, using the trampoline and building our strength with the bars.

Year 2 have had the opportunity to participate in swimming lessons over the final two weeks of term developing swimming techniques and strengthening their water safety confidence. It has been a term filled with learning reflected in our achievement of filling the stage token jar and earning extra sport. We are looking forward to the opportunity to rest and reset so we are all ready to continue our learning adventure in Term 4.
