Are you OK Day
R U OK DAY?
Mrs Kylie Stone
On Wednesday 11th September we celebrated R U OK? Day. This is a day that encourages people to stay connected and have conversations that can help others through difficult times. It’s about normalising talking about mental health and helping everyone see the value in opening up to others when things aren’t going so well. It’s not always easy to open up, but it can be the first step to admitting you need a little help.
You may have seen splashes of yellow around the school and on the staff. Yellow is the official colour of R U OK? Day and helps to remind everyone to check in with each other.
In the classroom, there were many discussions about the ways that we can check on each other. There were many different suggestions on how to ask R U OK? The students had some wonderful ideas which you can see in the photos of their amazing work.
Students and staff enjoyed an extended recess time, giving everyone the chance to check in with their friends and ask the important question of R U OK? Staff were also treated to a hot beverage from Ruby on Wheels to enjoy while checking in with each other. A big ‘thank you’ must go to Ms Evans and the wonderful people at Camp Australia for organising this treat for the staff.
Keeping the lines of communication open at home with your child is equally as important and we hope this can be a gentle reminder to everyone to check in every now and then, amongst your own family, work or social circle as an adult, but also your children.
