Year 7 Soccer
The Year 7 Northcote soccer team went out to Darebin international sports centre last week, to compete in the regional championships. It was an amazing day for the whole team, and the coaches as well. We Played 4 games against other great schools from around the region, And, by winning all our games, we got to face Brunswick in the grand final of the day. This was an extremely close game, with scores tied 1 – 1 at full time. We then went into extra time, and unfortunately Brunswick managed to scrape a goal in the last few minutes of the game. We ended up being the runners up in the region, and I think the team went home feeling mostly satisfied with the turnout of the day. The team had many star players, but there were a few standouts that we couldn’t have gotten as far as we did without. Nixon, Xavier, and Henry played outstanding games and carried our team through the day. Everyone else on the team also deserves a big thank you for all the effort they put in, showing the NHS spirit. Leon and Raff, our two year 9 coaches, were really amazing and put in heaps of work by making sure we all had a satisfactory game time and a wonderful day, and we couldn’t have done it without their helping hands. We all had a really fun day, and can’t wait to get back into it next year!

On August 27 our Yr 8 Basketball teams competed in the Division Competition at Narrandjeri Stadium. All 4 teams had some very competitive matches with both of our A Teams making it through to the finals. Our girls team narrowly missed out on the win overall with Preston taking the points in the dying seconds of the match. Well done to all of our teams, it was a really great day out. A big thank you to our student coaches Sophia, Sylvie, Leo and Amyn.
Well done to our Senior Basketball teams who recently competed in the Regional competition at Coburg Stadium.
Our boys were a few players down due to the Academy tournament. They played some competitive basketball against tough opposition. They narrowly missing out on the wins in their pool games against Viewbank, Mt Ridley and Hazelglen.
Our girls team combined together well to have 2 easy wins over Mill Park and Mt Ridley. This qualified them to play off in the final against the sporting school SEDA. Our girls put up a good fight but just couldn’t take the win. With a few players down due to camp we had only one sub on the bench all day. Our girls did well to keep the momentum going right to the end, with many team members putting up 3 pointers and their defence end was phenomenal. Coming runners up may have not been the result the girls were after but they should be proud of themselves. A good team effort.
On Friday 23 August, the year 7 girls went out to Macleod Netball Centre to compete in the Regionals. Their first game was against Viewbank was neck-to-neck the whole game, by the final siren they were up 4 and started with a win. Their second game was against Sacred Heart, and though it was a close game, the opposing team managed to slip past us within the last quarter and win by 6. Our last game was against Whittlesea to compete for 2nd place, which we won by 3. Overall, the year 7 girls competed fantastically throughout the tournament and grew closer together as friends. Well done for 2nd place at regionals, a great achievement!!

The Year 9 and 10 boys hockey team enjoyed a sunny day out at Reservoir High. They played three games and unfortunately were unsuccessful on making it through to the next round. They won one, lost one, and drew one of their games. The keeper, Ben was an important part for the team, along with defenders Oscar and Felix, and attacker Paxton.
