Visual Arts Faculty
From the Co-ordinator of Visual Arts
On Tuesday 27 August 2024, Year 9 Visual Arts and Photography and Digital Media students made the annual pilgrimage to participate in a ghost tour at Sydney’s former Quarantine Station on North Head which is reputed to be one of Australia’s most haunted sites, with stories of ghosts and paranormal occurrences even possessions entwined throughout its history. Could there be any better choice for an excursion that could engage and inspire our Stage 5 cohort in their artmaking practice? As the darkness descended over Q Station’s historic buildings, the burial ground and empty pathways the time soon came to encounter the ghosts of the site. Students visited the shower block, Autoclave, Tank Room, Morgue and the Hospital. Stories were told, backed up by photographic evidence from our guides. Visual Arts students will now complete a printmaking unit based on history and memory and the Photography and Digital media students will plan and script a short film utilising the school site as their set one evening. We cannot wait to see what these students produce.
