Congratulations to our HSC Dance and Drama Students

On Monday 19 August 2024, the accelerated Year 11 Dance class completed 80% of their HSC Dance course by presenting their Core Performance, Core Composition and Major Study works for the NESA markers. As part of the examination, each of these solo components are coupled with a 6 or 9 minute interview conducted by the markers. Students demonstrate and articulate their knowledge and understanding of Safe Dance practice, Dance Technique, Performance Quality and Composition development and processes. On behalf of the Dance class, we would like to thank their composition dancers Bella, Georgia, Lucia and Sophie who have worked tirelessly with their choreographer to learn and perform their Core Composition as part of the examination.

The following week, Monday 26 August 2024, the Year 12 Drama class completed 60% of their HSC Drama course. All students presented their Group Performance pieces for the NESA markers and the select audience which consisted of our Years 9 and 11 Elective Drama classes. The students who selected Performance as their Individual Project also presented these as part of the examination, whilst those who selected projects handed these in to be submitted to the NESA project markers. On behalf of the Year 12 Drama class, we would like to thank Sophie and Remy, the tech crew who have been working with these students throughout rehearsals, performances and their final examination.

Following these examinations as a celebration of their hard work, the Pittwater House Community had the opportunity to observe these final works of these at our annual HSC Dance Showcase on Wednesday 28 August in the Great Hall. This was a fabulous opportunity for the dance students to present all three of their performance pieces for an audience. Ending the evening with their Major Study Performance work ‘Mary’, performed collectively although choreographed and examined individually.

The programme included the two Drama group pieces ‘Fore’ and ‘Headquarters’. These were presented at the HSC Drama and Music night as a work in progress. The Year 12 Drama class were thrilled to present their finished works publicly.

Thank you to Nakita and Remy, the tech crew for the evening and Tiana the Performing Arts Prefect, for coming along to support these students and MC-ing the evening.

A huge thank you to the HSC Dance and Drama staff Ms Gabrielle Wenman, Mrs Rebekah Humphries and Ms Lucy Eaton (maternity leave) for their continued dedication and support provided to each of these students.
