Whats happening in Careers?

Year 10

The Year 10 students are making great progress in their career exploration journey. After completing self-assessments, they are now researching courses and opportunities that match their interests, using SEEK as a valuable starting point. This includes exploring programs at different institutions and considering apprenticeships. We will continue supporting them in identifying pathways that lead to success in their chosen fields.

Year 11

This week during MyPath, I spent time with Mr Mallon and spoke to the boys about Workplace Learning and the opportunities available to them in 2025. A number of students have successfully secured apprenticeships for that year, and I wish them all the best. I'm eager to hear about their experiences in the near future.

Year 12

It’s hard to believe this group is finishing up! We wish all the boys heading into their ATAR exams the very best of luck. Congratulations to those who have completed UniReady pathways, General courses, and those who have secured apprenticeships. Exciting times are ahead for each of you! We wrapped up the term with a presentation from Year 13 students now studying at university or working in apprenticeships. They shared valuable insights on life after Mazenod and how to navigate the transition. We always love hearing from our MOBA and hope that our current Year 12s will return to share their experiences in the future.

A big thanks to Zaid Buckland (Primary School Teaching at Curtin University), Brayden Nicholson (Security & Intelligence at Macquarie University), Brendan Powell (Psychology at UWA), Lachlan Verity (Electrical Apprenticeship at Tasman Power), Cooper Sorgiovanni (Heavy Diesel Fitter Apprenticeship at Epiroc), and Bradley Bannister (Mechanic at Kia/Hyundai). It was fantastic to see them thriving in their chosen paths and offering advice to the class of 2024.

Construction

As one of Australia’s largest industries, apprenticeships and traineeships are great ways to help you make your mark in this industry, with financial support available upon successful completion of your training.

Clean Energy

The Machines are Coming!! What do I need to be competitive in the Age of AI?

As AI becomes increasingly common in our lives, many students wonder what subjects they should study and what jobs will be available to them when they leave school. LinkedIn has identified 6 critical human skills that students can work on to help them build a career in the Age of AI.

Communication – can you clearly express your ideas to others, can you inspire and motivate them? Can you talk easily with your colleagues?
Critical thinking – can you engage with big ideas, question assumptions and synthesize new ideas?
Creativity and Innovation – having freed ourselves from the time-consuming tasks being undertaken by AI, we can focus on creative endeavours. AI can be used as a tool to enhance our creativity, BUT the output will only be as good as the CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION humans bring to the collaboration.
