From the Principal
Dear Parents, Students, Staff and Friends of Mazenod College,
“God’s grace is the oil that fills the lamp of our soul, allowing us to shine brightly in a world that desperately needs light”.
Moments of grace are central to St Eugene’s story with three of his more prominent moments that reinforced for him, the loving and caring presence of God in his life. Our own lives are full of moments and, as Christian people, we share a belief that we are surrounded in grace.
I shared at our College Assembly this week, that “Moments of Grace” will be our focus and theme for the 2025 year as we move closer to the 60th Jubilee year of our College. Our successes, our challenges, our learning and our teachings, and most of all, our faith experiences, will be celebrated and reflected upon through the lens as “Moments of Grace” – the potential from which enlightens our lives.
To get into the spirit of this theme, I tasked the audience at our assembly that, as we spend time resting and relaxing on the school holidays, that we also dedicate time to reflect on those moments we’ve shared this term and the ever-presence of the Lord’s grace that surrounds us in our lives.
ACC ‘A’ Division Athletics
Each and every year we enjoy continued success in the sporting arena for our Mazenod College teams and 2024 has again seen some wonderful results. I speak of course of recent successes in grand finals in Year 9 AFL, the Year 7/8 and 11/12 Hockey and most notably, the back-to-back success of our First XI Soccer team taking out the Football West Champion School Shield competition. Further, a number of our teams were outstanding in their representation of Mazenod College.
Last week we saw some wonderful achievements at AK Stadium, the arena for the ACC ‘A’ Division Athletics carnival. Whilst relegation to ‘B’ Division is always feared, the arena was becoming somewhat of a “field of dreams” for our squad, coming second by only two points in the overall shield. A wonderful result for our team, coaches and supporters but most pleasing, was the belief and energy of our young men – a belief that we can not only compete at that level but conquer. We hold great hope for going one better in 2025.
Fr Bill Ousley OMI
As mentioned in the last newsletter, it is with sadness that we farewell Fr Bill Ousley OMI after three generous years of service to Mazenod College. Fr Bill has an unwavering commitment and passion for sharing the true gifts of being in a loving relationship with Jesus – I’m sure many, if not all who have interacted with Fr Bill, have experienced that passion in the conversations and interactions shared with him. We all wish Fr Bill well in the parish at St Eugene’s and beyond and we will continue to pray for him and look forward to his next visit with us.
End of Term Wishes
I would like to finish by extending our best wishes to those Year 12 students who will be sitting College examinations during the holidays. I also offer all students and staff a safe, healthy and well-deserved school holiday period and renewed energy to face the final term of the academic year.
“The holiday season is a perfect time to reflect on our blessings and seek out ways to make life better for those around us” (Anonymous).
God bless.
