Mr. Churchyard and Ms. Hardy

Term 2 kicked off with the senior boys' soccer team travelling to Casey Fields Synthetic. The boys were in high spirits, excited by the prospect of representing CESC for the last time. The students demonstrated excellent sportsmanship throughout the tournament and finished up 3rd place overall. The senior badminton boys' and girls' teams competed well all day with the final both our girl's teams winning their pools and playing each other in the final. The girls will progress to the region stage of the competition on the 24th of July. We also had a senior boys AFL team participate at Marriott Waters Reserve finishing up in second place, just losing out to Alkira.

The Intermediate boys' and girls' soccer teams were very competitive but unfortunately missed out on progressing through to the next round. Students learnt a lot about sportsmanship and effective communication from the day.  Much the same the netball and badminton teams narrowly missed out on progressing to region, facing off in some closely fort matches. Both these teams demonstrated the values of the college and held themselves well throughout.

The Year 8 soccer teams were competitive all day, with the boys narrowly missing out on winning their pool by a dubious decision. The boys learnt a lot about how to react to setbacks and focus on the game. Despite not qualifying the boys remained unbeaten all day. The girls started off really well scoring goals for fun, but just came up short in their final game unfortunately costing them a place at the region stage.  The Year 8 netball and badminton teams had excellent days out, playing in some close fort rallies. Both teams showed grit and determination to stay in close matches and keep pushing until the end.

The Year 7 girls netball team were dominant from the start winning the division stage of the competition and will be in action again on the 9th of August. The boys' and girls' soccer teams relished the opportunity to play against the local teams for the first time on the synthetic surface. The boys and girls badminton teams also had a good day out, demonstrating the values of the college throughout the day, self-scoring and umpiring games.  We also had a boys and girls junior AFL team made up of year 7 and 8 students. Both teams enjoyed running out together, showing excellent camaraderie and team spirit.

This term we also had our CESC cross country. We had 60 runners' bus to Casey fields to run around the lake over a 3km and 5km track. 40 runners progressed to the division stage of the competition. It was exciting to see half of those runners qualify for the region stage of the competition held at Ballam Park. Students represented themselves extremely well competing to the best of their ability. At this level the standard is extremely high with only the top 12 qualifying for state. Jacob Impey was our standout performer of the day, finishing up 15th and just missing out on going to state to represent CESC. Great effort by all students.

On the 13th of June we held our annual school athletics carnival, despite the cold the weather held out and everyone was in high spirits. With 1400 students in attendance, it was great to see students dressed up in their house themes and getting involved with the different activities on offer. Parkes house ended up being crowned the athletics champions for 2024, Chisholm coming runners up and Gilmore taking 3rd place.

In term 3 we look forward to division athletics being held on Monday 9th September. We also have all of our Term 3 sports in action with senior and Year 7 try outs being completed over the step-up period. When we return in Term 3, we will be completing the remain cohorts try outs for basketball, table tennis and handball.
