Marist Ski Trip 2025

We are excited to announce the return of our annual Ski Trip, which has been a much-anticipated event for our Year 10, 11 and 12 students (2025). The trip will take place in the stunning mountain setting of Queenstown, New Zealand, from Saturday, 28th June to Saturday, 5th July 2025 (Term 2 Holidays).

During this 8-day adventure, students will have the opportunity to spend five days skiing at two of New Zealand's famous ski resorts: Coronet Peak (3 days) and The Remarkables (2 days). The program includes professional skiing and snowboarding lessons, ensuring that students of all skill levels can participate and improve. Students will also enjoy free time on the slopes, allowing them to practice their skills and have fun in a safe environment. Additionally, the trip includes down day activities in Queenstown, such as a Jet Boat ride, Gondola ride and luge rides.

After being unable to run ski trips due to Covid-19, we are keen to get it up and running again and provide our students with this unique experience. This trip is a fantastic opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the alpine environment, enhance their skiing or snowboarding abilities, boost their confidence, and build lasting friendships.

Current Year 9, 10, and 11 students are invited to apply. Please see the attached Expression of Interest here.

From our P&F  - The Parents of Neurodiverse Learners Group (NDL)

An understanding and inclusive network of support can make a huge difference as you and your child navigate the schooling journey. The Parents of Neurodiverse Learners Group (NDL) provides connection and friendship for parents of neurodiverse learners through social gatherings and a private Facebook page. New members can expect an encouraging and understanding environment. The group commenced in 2022 with the support of the College with the vision to enable a safe space where people could ask neurodiverse specific questions without judgement.  Seeing this dream come to fruition is marvellous.

It was so pleasing to see that 50% of the attendees at the “May the fourth (force) be with us!” dinner were parents attending their first NDL catch up. There is another dinner scheduled for Saturday 8 June.

The NDL group now has over 50 members.  Connections with the group can be made via the P&F page in the newsletter and we get particularly excited when parents find us via word of mouth.

Tuckshop Volunteers

Many of our parents are keen to help in some way to contribute to the Marist community that we are so well known for. Two ways to do this are through volunteering in the College Tuckshop during the day, or through the Sports Canteens on the weekend.

If you would like to volunteer in the Tuckshop during the day, please click on the relevant link below. Our Tuckshop convenor Josie Loucas will take your details and be only too happy to welcome you into the Tuckshop volunteer family. If you are too nervous to volunteer on your own, there is always the possibility of signing up with a friend. Just let Josie know if you want to be there at the same time as a buddy and I know she will help you out. We have parents who leave at the end of their son’s schooling journey commenting on how much they loved their regular (weekly, fortnightly or even term-by-term) Tuckshop catch-up with friends over the years.

For Sports Canteen volunteers, please keep an eye out on the App for calls to sign up. Remember – if you feel more comfortable with a friend, please rope them in and take them along. The more the merrier!

Safe Travel and Parking

With the normalisation of student travel home and the concentration of sport training occurring before and after school, it's imperative each of us meet our responsibilities with respect to safe driving and car parking. Please ensure you follow all signed parking instructions. By way of example, parking over yellow lines along the Glenlyon Road exit to the College causes much congestion and is unsafe for our students, neighbours and other drivers. Each afternoon Frasers Road sees a number of buses, cars and student pedestrians from both Marist and surrounding schools. Your support with and driving through this area at this with an extra level of awareness and care will greatly assist in a safe passage home for all.

In support of the continued advocacy of safe passage to and from school for students in our local area, you are invited to contribute to a local community petition to the Queensland Government here.
