From the Head of Boarding

Welcome to the Boarders' Closed Weekend. We have made it to Week Seven and as we pause to reflect on this fast-paced term, we can once again acknowledge boarding at Great Southern Grammar is about community, it's one of our points of difference living in the region and providing a place where your child can learn and live, while staying connected to home and where they grew up.

We have had a few big weeks in Boarding and the theme of one community is strong and vibrant within our school/boarding community. Our recent National Boarding Week exemplified this through our Boarding Captains reaching out to local businesses AFGRI (Mr Max Kerkmans) and McIntosh and Son (Mr Michael Fethers) to lend their support to bring a taste of our farming machinery into the school.

Behind the scenes we were supported by current GSG and boarding families to assist in making this event possible. The supply of lambs from Mrs Tracey and Mr Cameron Cant in Kojonup (parents of Matthew, Year Nine) and Mrs Liz and Mr Trevor Cosh in Albany (parents of Louis, School Captain) allowed us to provide students with lamb to shine a light on the demise of our live export industry in Western Australia. Mrs Kate Mitchell from The Darcy Effect gave up her time to present on what her business is about and the difference we can make to the lives of young families in our region. Mrs Anna-Lisa Newman was a driving force behind ensuring we were able to reach our regional audience through her media connections to ABC Radio and Farm Weekly.

Our boarding community is young compared to other boarding schools around the state, but what we have in the Great Southern region is unique with clear points of difference that was highlighted last week. Community connections are importance for an effective boarding school to function through economic competitiveness, student wellbeing and community health and development. By combining our resources within our community, we can continue to grow and develop our boarding program at GSG into the future.

Enjoy the long weekend.
