Sport Dates for 2024

School Trial Athletics Carnival:  Friday 21st June, 2024

School Athletics Carnival:  Thursday 25th July, 2024

ADPSC Athletics Carnival:  Friday 9th August, 2024

Trial Athletics Carnival

The Trial Athletics Carnival will be held on Friday 21st June. This event is for Years 2 - 6 only. The students are bussed at various times to the Athletics Centre to run the 100m and 200m events only. The purpose of the day is to determine who will be in the timed Championship Events on the day of the actual School Athletics Carnival (Thursday week 1, Term 3).

Years 3 - 6 will be carrying out both shot put and long jump over the coming weeks at school to determine Championship Events and Year 2 will participate in these events the day of the trial.

High jump will be held at school next Wednesday 5th June and Wednesday 12th June. This event is not held on the day of the Athletics Carnival, therefore students who are successful will have their points recorded and kept for the championship points. High jump is only for students who are proficient in this area.

Please keep an eye out on Compass in the following weeks to consent for both of these events.

Hockey Superstar

A massive congratulations to Ashton Jeffrey for completing a week of hockey at the PSSA Hockey Championships. Ashton was selected to play in the Polding Hockey team who made the finals which was played on Friday. The Polding team came out with a 2-1 win. Congratulations Ashton and the Polding Hockey team.

Polding Cross Country Trials

Yesterday, Jimmy Press, Matty Press and Aria Sutherland participated in the Polding Trials for Cross Country at Eastern Creek in Sydney. These running champions did extremely well. Matty came 23rd, Aria came 8th (shadow reserve) and Jimmy came 7th (shadow reserve). Amazing running guys! Congratulations!

Gary McSweeney Memorial Cup

Last Friday, St Edward's competed in the Gary McSweeney Memorial Cup. This is a rugby union pathway carnival that gives students the opportunity to be selected for a Diocesan team. I want to thank all the boys who played last Friday, as we only had one rugby union player in the team, the rest of the team play rugby league. Congratulations to our only union player for getting selected in the Diocesan team. Well done Riley Pieper!

Please read through some housekeeping for the current basketball season

1. Tamworth Sports Dome

Our wonderful facility is operated by the Tamworth Regional Council and Tamworth Basketball share this facility with other businesses and their clients. It is important that we do not have children running through the foyer area and playing on the stairs that lead up to Rural Fit. This is for the safety of the children, as well as the other users of the Sports Dome. We have also had some instances of young children being seen to be running around the car park area unsupervised. As you can appreciate, this is a major safety concern, and we ask all parents supervise their children whilst attending the Sports Dome.

2.  Spectators

Tamworth Basketball and Tamworth Region Council provide seating for spectators to use whilst watching the games. We appreciate that at times this seating can be limited when we have an increased amount of spectators watching games but we ask that spectators do not sit on the Players/Coaches benches that are situated on either side of the score bench. These benches are specifically for the players and coaches, and we need to ensure that players and coaches have an adequate area to use during their game. We are in the process of acquiring additional seating.

Spectators are also reminded not to stand or sit directly behind the baskets at either end of the court. This is for the safety of all players, referees, court supervisors and spectators. If you are asked to move along by one of Court Supervisors, please do so as we would not like to see anyone become injured from standing or sitting in this area.

3.  2024 Competition Rules and Information

We have attached a copy of the 2024 Junior Competition Rules and Information. Please read them as it outlines information relating to scoring, players, fees and other matters that help us to operate our local competitions.

St Edward's Cyclones

Congratulations to the St Edward's Cyclones for getting their first win last Thursday. This team of amazing young ladies have worked really hard to improve their skills and it has paid off.  Well done ladies!
