Principal Reflections

Dear Parents and Carers,

First Holy Communion

Last Sunday our school and parish community came together to celebrate the Sacrament of First Holy Communion. The Sacrament of First Holy Communion is an initiation sacrament and is very special, as it invites those who are present to receive Jesus in communion to eat and drink with the rest of the community at the Table of the Lord. This is a sign of the individuals commitment to  belonging fully to the Catholic community.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of the 39 candidates who received the Blessed Sacrament for the first time on Sunday. Thank you also to the choir who were a beautiful addition to the celebration. Finally, thanks to Mrs Clarke, our excellent teachers Mrs Pearson, Mrs Press and Mrs Mavin and Deacon Paul and Fr Roel for preparing the students so well for this special day.

Investing in Culture

Having a positive school culture has an impact, not just on the attitudes of students and teachers, but on the entire learning experience. Basically, a school culture consists of the underlying influences and attitudes within our school - based on the vibe that is present, our traditions and beliefs and the responses of our staff and students.

A key initiative on our AIP for this year is to prioritise time to reflect upon and build culture within our school. Already our school has been supported by Catherine Jackson, who lead our Professional Development at the start of this term. As a starting point the staff have worked together to develop some key actions being:

To allow specific time to follow up with this work, we have scheduled a staff meeting per term to reflect and gather feedback on how we are going. This staff meeting, facilitated by Belinda Barry-Cupples, occurred this week and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Uniform Reminder

All students are to be in full WINTER UNIFORM from next Tuesday 11th June and onwards. Our St Edward’s School uniform is designed to establish positive attitudes, personal responsibility, personal and communal pride and school spirit. The full support of the school community is essential in achieving and maintaining these goals. Many thanks in advance for your support.

Until next week,

Keep smiling,

Alison Hatton
