COLLEGE CAPTAINS REPORT & BSC WEEKLY

Dear Brighton Secondary Community,

Over the last few weeks, we as College Captains have been involved in numerous activities and we wanted to share some of the highlights, and things that are upcoming that we are looking forward to.

Firstly, this week we worked with staff to deliver the Teach the Teacher program to help promote the levels of classroom connectedness and student voice within the school. We spent the last few weeks reading and analysing past Attitudes to School Survey data, and running focus groups with staff and students alike to design a program that best facilitated the needs of students in a classroom, and what is achievable and manageable for our staff. We want to thank everyone who was involved in this initiative, the staff for approaching the session with an open mind, and who engaged with the concepts discussed, the amazing students who helped to facilitate the session and Ms Bolton and Mr Chalk for supporting us as College Captains to craft the program. Teach the Teacher is a practice that we are aiming to embed within our school programs to ensure our students have the opportunity to provide feedback and see meaningful change within their classrooms.

Similarly, we worked with the SRC to run a student forum for all students at the school to share their ideas and give their feedback so we can ensure that our initiatives as leaders are best servicing the needs of students.

We are looking forward to Mabo theme day next week, and really encourage students to take part by wearing the colours of the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander flags, (red, yellow, black and green and/or blue) and take part in the activities that are running during the week.

We wanted to say a huge congratulations to all students who had assessments this week, we know that our cohort of year 12’s have been working especially hard on completing our final SACs for unit 3. We wish those students with exams the best of luck in the following weeks!

Finally, we want to reiterate for both parents and students that if you wish to suggest any ideas, get involved in school initiatives or share any exciting achievements please send us an email at: collegecaptain@brightonsc.vic.edu.au.

Thank you,

The College Captain team
