PRINCIPAL REPORT
The past two weeks we’ve had a focus on the future, with our senior students looking towards their pathways through our careers programs. It was terrific to see our Year 10s engaging so fully with their mock interview program, and I was delighted to join the interview schedule for a morning to hear from our students and learn a little more about what drives and inspires them. This program was followed on Wednesday by our Careers Expo and Year 10 Information Evening, a chance for students and families to learn more about senior pathways in preparation for upcoming course selections.
On Tuesday, our teaching team was reminded of what it is like to be a student again, as our students leaders stepped into our professional learning session to ‘Teach the Teacher’. Breaking us into small groups, our students ran us through some great learning activities, inviting us to consider the strategies we use to build student connection and engagement for improved student outcomes.
On Monday our Student Representative Council (SRC) ran a student forum seeking student feedback and ideas about how we can work together to develop and improve our college into the future. This information will help inform the improvement work we are doing and ensure that we are keeping our students at the centre of our thinking as we plan ahead.
Initiatives like Teach the Teacher, our Mock Interview program and our SRC forums highlight the capability, maturity and thoughtfulness of our students, who demonstrate aspiration not only for themselves but also for their peers. Building our students’ agency in their learning and development is vital to their growth as learners and as people, and it’s wonderful to see this encouraged at the college. I look forward to learning more from our students as the year unfolds!
