What Did You Do At School?

Prep

Wow! We have had a fantastic fortnight in Prep! In writing, we have been learning to write Information Reports. Did you know an Information Report includes a title, facts and a labelled diagram? We loved reading our facts and sharing our knowledge with each other. This week’s word of the week is ‘tray’. A tray is a flat, shallow container that is used to carry different items. On Monday, we decorated biscuits with icing and lollies and placed them on our handmade trays! The biscuits were delicious! In Mathematics, we have been exploring teen numbers. We have been practising our number formation, recognising number words and making collections. This term has been full of learning, fun, and adventure. What will the next term hold?!

Year 1

Did you know God holds all the power? We have been exploring how powerful God is and how He equips us with everything we need so we can carry out His purpose. We can see this through many stories found in the Old Testament, such as Joseph, Moses, and Joshua. One of the highlights of our day is Morning Devotions in our classrooms. We spend time reading God’s Word, discussing its meaning for us, worshipping and praising God through song, and praying together. These special times of the day remind us of how important God is in our lives.

Year 2

This term, we have been diving into the book of Acts and learning about what the disciples did to spread the Good News of Jesus to the world! We discussed Peter, how the visions sent to him from God shaped the way we live today, and how God protected and freed him when he was imprisoned. We heard about Philip and Stephen and their pursuit of sharing the Gospel; and how Saul accepted Christ and became Paul. We hope to spread the Good News like the disciples!

Year 3

This term has been a tremendous time of exploration and adventure as we have investigated the lives of those who voyaged far across the world. On Thursday 27 June, we celebrated our incredible learning with an expo to present information about our chosen explorer and tested visitors using a digital quiz we created all by ourselves! Here are some reflections from our Year 3 students from Term 3:

I discovered that the explorer, Amerigo Vespucci, is Italian. In Italy, their national day is Republic Day, but they call it Festa Della Repubblica – it’s really fun to say! Hope Brown (3D)

I learnt that James Cook had siblings and that he was married. When he was exploring the world, I think his family would have felt hopeful that he would make it back home. But unfortunately, he did not when he was exploring Hawaii. Charlotte Tu (3M)

I found out that Francis Drake was the first Englishman to circumnavigate the whole world. I first thought that this was his only adventure, but I later discovered that he went to the Philippines and Africa. Esther Cing Sian Nuam (3M)

We are so proud of our efforts this term, and so are our teachers!

Year 4

We have been hard at work, preparing our presentations for the Age of Exploration Expo. Students have researched explorers from approximately the late 15th Century to the 17th Century, each focusing on one particular person who has shaped our world today. We were thrilled to prepare quizzes in DigiTech that accompanied our research and learn more about mapping in our Maths.

Thank you to every person who took time out of their day to check out our learning and visit the Expo. It means so much to have the support of our community, and we hope we were able to teach you something about the legacy of these famous explorers.

Year 5

What an outstanding end to the semester we have had in Year 5. If you happened to visit the Year 5 classroom on Thursday 20 June, you may have been very confused as we had an expo celebrating our learning about the early European settlement of Australia. First, we worked collaboratively to create dioramas representing pivotal events that helped shape Australia. It was great fun when we created sound effects to match our dioramas. When our guests stepped into the room, they were flooded with sounds and voices from the past. We also researched influential people in Australian history. Rather than creating posters or presentations, we took on the personality of our influential Australian and presented our research verbally. Some of us added an accessory, and others were fully dressed up; either way, it was an amazing way to end the semester. Now we need time to rest so we can come back refreshed for Semester 2. We are getting ever closer to becoming the leaders of the Junior School. It is wonderful to learn from the amazing role models we have in the Year 6 students

Year 6

We have had the privilege of taking part in the Year 9 Mock Election. After listening to speeches from each political party and asking probing questions of the party members, we each had an opportunity to vote for the group that we felt won us over. It was fantastic to revisit what we learnt last year during our camp to Canberra, about democracy and the preferential voting system. Visiting each of the political party rooms provided the opportunity to ask follow-up questions and critically evaluate their message and persuasive techniques. We appreciate all your hard work (and tasty treats), Year 9!
