Year 12 Community and Family Studies Excursion

 

 

On Friday 3rd May our Year 12 Community and Family studies class visited Wayside Chapel in Kings Cross. As a part of the unit ‘Groups in context’ the class study the challenges of homelessness.

 

This eye-opening excursion allowed students to get a better understanding of what it's like to be a person who is homeless. Whilst at Wayside we were able to see Wayside's rooftop garden, the Cafe and Op shop. The program was guided by a worker at Wayside who spoke about the significance of certain locations in Kings Cross such as MSIC and the history of Wayside. 

 

The overall message that the class brought away from the experience was how much Wayside is enabling individuals who are homeless to take control over their lives.
