UQ Museum of Antiquitie Excursion

by Darcy Jackman Year 10

As a Year 10 student, the excursion to the UQ Museum of Antiquities was a valuable and engaging learning experience. The visit helped deepen our understanding of Ancient Egyptian culture, beliefs, and daily life, which links closely to our Term One History studies. During the excursion, we examined and analysed a wide range of artefacts from both Ancient and more recent periods of Egyptian history. These included death masks, amulets, shabti figurines, and assorted hieroglyphics found on different primary sources. Seeing these artefacts in person made the historical concepts we study in class feel more real and meaningful. The museum staff provided helpful explanations that allowed us to better understand the significance of burial practices, religion, and symbolism in Egyptian society. Overall, the excursion was informative, well organised, and enhanced our learning by allowing us to directly engage with authentic historical sources.
