Debating Club

The BSC debating team is up and running again for 2026! We have been invited to participate in the Debaters Association Victoria (DAV) 2026 Schools Competition for years 9-12, as well as the DAV Junior Secondary Program for years 7 and 8.

Debating is a fantastic opportunity to develop your public speaking and presentation skills, build connections with other students a cross year levels, and take part in the world's largest English language debating competition! Debating team meetings are running every Tuesday lunchtime in N217 for any and everyone interested in attending or finding out more. We’ll have some practice debates, public speaking practice, and planning time in the lead up to our competitions. Students across all year levels are welcome to attend.

We would love to be able to field teams of 3 all the way from 7-12, so grab a few friends and give it a go!

As it currently stands, our debates will take place Just down the road at Brighton Grammar School on the following dates:

• Round 1: Wednesday, February 25th 2026

• Round 2: Wednesday, March 18th 2026

• Round 3: Wednesday, May 6th 2026

• Round 4: Wednesday, May 27th 2026

• Round 5: Wednesday, June 10th 2026

Our debates are typically held at 7:30pm.

If you are interested in signing up, please fill out this form, just so we have  a better idea of numbers going forward.

If you have any questions about anything, feel free to shoot an email to lom@brightonsc.vic.ed.au

Safe Space Alliance

Hello Brighton Secondary College Community!

We are pleased to announce that the Safe Space Alliance (SSA) will be returning this year.

When: Wednesdays at lunchtime, 12:35–1:30pm

Where: W11 (inside the Wellbeing Centre / W-Block)

SSA is a voluntary, inclusive lunchtime space that is open to anyone and everyone. Students are very welcome to attend if they wish - there is no requirement to come every week, and students can join at any time.

SSA provides:

  • A safe, calm and happy space to spend lunchtime
  • An opportunity to make new friends and connect with others
  • A place to be yourself without judgement or pressure
  • A supportive environment to talk about concerns and receive advice
  • A chance to share what makes you happy or excited with people who care

Students are also welcome to simply relax, chat, or enjoy a stress-free space to hang out.

If students have any questions or would like further clarification about SSA, please feel free to get in touch via email (brs@brightonsc.vic.edu.au).
