Prep News

We are so proud of how beautifully the children are settling into school life. Starting Prep is a big milestone, and the growth we have already seen in confidence, independence and kindness has been wonderful.
The Prep students are becoming increasingly familiar with the routines of the day. They are showing greater independence when unpacking, transitioning between activities and organising their belongings.
It has been so lovely to see new friendships forming and students happily playing together outside. The playground is full of smiles!
Take a look at what we've been up to over the last two weeks...
📚 Literacy
We have continued our Joy Cowley book rotations, the fun activities that go with them. Students have enjoyed making mini pizzas and jelly and designing their own “Smarty Pants”.
🔤 Phonics
We have met two new sound friends…
Felix Frog – /f/
Ally Alligator – /a/
Students have been practising how to correctly form these letters and are working hard to hear the sounds at the beginning, middle and end of words. Now that they have learnt their first vowel sound, students are also starting to blend simple sounds together.
⏰ Numeracy
In Maths, we have been learning all about time!
We have been:
- Talking about morning, afternoon and evening
- Learning the days of the week
- Ordering events in our day
- Exploring duration - which activities take longer or shorter amounts of time
✝️ Religion
The past two weeks have been very special in our faith journey.
Last Friday, we attended our very first whole school Mass. The Grade Prep students sat very respectfully throughout the whole mass. At the end of mass, Father James commended them on their reverence.
We also celebrated Shrove Tuesday with pancakes. A huge thank you to our amazing parent helpers who generously gave their time to cook and serve. We are so grateful for your support
Students respectfully received ashes on their foreheads for Ash Wednesday as we began the season of Lent. We have continued learning about prayer and how we can speak and listen to God in quiet and thoughtful ways.
👨👩👧👦 Inquiry
We have been exploring what makes our families unique. Students have loved sharing about the special people in their lives and learning that every family looks a little bit different — and that is what makes them so special.
