Senior School Bulletin

As the term continues, this week is an opportunity for our students to pause and recognise the progress they are making, often through small but meaningful moments in their learning and relationships. Growth in the Senior School does not always come from major achievements; it is built through steady effort, resilience, and the willingness to keep going when things feel challenging. Completing a difficult piece of work, contributing in class, trying something new, or showing care for a peer, are all achievements worth celebrating. Taking time to notice these small wins helps build confidence and a sense of pride in the journey, not just the outcome.
I encourage students to reflect on a few positive moments from their week and, if they feel comfortable, to share one with a teacher, friend, or family member. Families may like to continue these conversations at home, celebrating effort and reminding students that every step forward truly does count.
Assessment Calendars
Assessment Calendars for all Year 7 to 12 subjects in Semester 1 are now available to students and their families. These calendars have been distributed via email and can also be accessed through the school app for parents and carers.
The Assessment Calendars serve as an important planning tool. By providing an overview of every scheduled assessment for each subject, they allow students to organise their study time thoughtfully and to balance their home learning alongside co‑curricular, family, and personal commitments. With clear visibility of upcoming deadlines, students are better equipped to prepare in a timely manner to avoid feeling rushed or overwhelmed as tasks approach. Families, too, can use these calendars to offer support at home, helping students maintain healthy routines and manage their workload proactively.
We encourage all students to review their assessment calendar carefully and to incorporate key dates into their personal planners or digital calendars. Regular reference to these schedules can foster positive study habits, reduce stress, and strengthen students’ sense of ownership in their learning.
NAPLAN - NAP Locked Down Browser Installation
Following the information shared in last week’s letter to families, the NAP Locked Down Browser required for NAPLAN testing will be installed on student laptops next week. This specialised software is used nationally for NAPLAN online testing and ensures that students complete assessments in a secure environment. The Locked Down Browser restricts access to other applications, websites, and device functions during the test, maintaining the integrity and fairness of the assessment process for all students.
The installation of the browser forms part of our preparation for the NAPLAN practice test scheduled for Week 5 of this term. This practice opportunity assists students in becoming familiar with the online testing platform and question formats prior to the formal NAPLAN assessments in Week 7. It also enables the school to ensure that devices and systems are functioning as expected ahead of the official testing window.
Pal’entine’s Day
Henderson Fundraiser
On Friday 13 February, Henderson House will be hosting Pal’entine’s Day, providing students with an opportunity to show their support for MS Australia. On the day, students are invited to wear red accessories as a sign of solidarity. A bake sale will be held at morning tea and lunch in the Middle Years Courtyard to raise funds.
MS Australia is a not-for-profit organisation that supports research into treating, preventing, and ultimately curing multiple sclerosis (MS), while also providing support to individuals and families affected by the disease. MS is a chronic neurological condition that currently affects more than 25,000 Australians. Through our collective support, we can help make a positive difference.
Uniform Requirements – Pal’entine’s Day
- To and from school: Full formal school uniform (no accessories)
- At school:
- Red accessories may be worn (including a red wig)
- No bikini tops to be worn over the school uniform
No makeup or coloured hair spray
All students are encouraged to participate by wearing a red accessory.
Please note that no gold coin donation is required on the day. Families wishing to donate, may do so online. A link will be shared over the coming weeks for these purposes.
Reminder - Locker Safety
To help ensure the safety and security of students’ personal belongings, we kindly ask that all students have a lock on their locker no later than Monday morning. Lockers without a lock will be temporarily secured until a lock is provided, as part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe environment for everyone.
Harmony Day
In Week 9 on Tuesday 24 March, Clayfield College will celebrate Harmony Day, recognising the many cultures that make up our College community.
The day is an opportunity to reflect on inclusivity, respect and belonging, and to celebrate the diversity that enriches our school. Students who are interested in presenting a group cultural dance or performance as part of the celebrations are warmly invited to contact Mr Walker at awalker@clayfield.qld.edu.au

Safer Internet Day
Earlier this week our Heads of Year acknowledged Safer Internet Day at their Year Level Meetings.
The 2026 theme - Smart Tech, Safe Choices - highlighted the growing influence of smart technology and artificial intelligence in children’s lives. Children regularly encounter these tools through games, learning apps and online platforms, which brings both opportunities and questions about privacy, accuracy of information and understanding what is automated. Safer Internet Day reminds us that children stay safer online when they feel informed, supported and trusted. Parents and families are encouraged to focus on confidence rather than fear, communication rather than secrecy and healthy habits rather than strict restriction.
Parents can continue this conversation at home. You do not need technical knowledge to support your child online. Simple actions make a significant difference:
Start a conversation by asking what your child enjoys online and why, listening closely to their experiences.
Explore privacy settings together to build understanding and awareness.
Talk about recognising uncomfortable situations, questioning online information and knowing when to pause or seek help.
Reassure your child that they can come to you if something goes wrong online and that support will be available.
Safer Internet Day served as a helpful reminder that online safety grows through ongoing, calm and collaborative conversations.
