Year 2 and 3 Chinese Incursion
Last Tuesday, we enjoyed a Chinese Language Learners incursion. We felt very special as it was only for Year 2 and 3 students. Our day started with learning how to use diablos, which are like Chinese Yoyos. They were so much fun! It proved difficult to make them ‘jump’ and lots went flying all around the amphitheatre. Most of us finally mastered this new skill and felt very proud.
After this activity we went to the Technology Lab to learn about the history of the 12 Chinese Zodiac Characters. We then made an intricate print artwork. With a special dabber we put ink on the red paper and pressed it firmly against another piece. The result was a beautiful artwork of a Chinese dragon – now proudly displayed on my fridge (Jack).
The incursion ended with some Chinese trivia, with questions about the Zodiac characters and how to make print artworks.
Jack: I love learning Chinese because now I can count in two languages.
Amelia: I like that now I learn Chinese I can use the App called Blooket and take on my brother and try to beat him.
Thank you to the Griffith University Tourism Confucius Institute volunteers for a wonderful experience which has us very excited for the upcoming Chinese New Year!
