Prep - In Term Two, students are focusing on chemical sciences - the study of substances. They will be investigating what objects are made of. During the last two weeks, students have continued discussing properties of materials with a focus on rough versus smooth and big versus small. They used their sense of touch to feel different objects and identify if they were rough or smooth, and compared other objects to their hand to identify if they were big or small.

Year 1/2s - In Term Two, students are focusing on physical sciences - the study of non-living things. They will be investigating sound energy and how different sounds are produced. During the last two weeks, students have conducted an investigation to see how the pitch of a sound changes when you add different amounts of water in glass jars. They have also experimented with the transmission of sound through the air and through solids.

Year 3/4s - In Term Two, students are focusing on physical sciences - the study of non-living things. They will be investigating heat energy and how it is generated and transferred. During the last two weeks, students have evaluated how heat is transferred between objects in different scenarios through direct or indirect contact. They learned about insulators and conductors and completed a spoon investigation to determine which material of spoon conducts the most heat energy.

Year 5/6s - In Term Two, students are focusing on physical sciences - the study of non-living things. They will be investigating light energy and how it travels and changes. During the last two weeks, students have focused on the transmission, dispersion and refraction of light, as well as shadows. They conducted an investigation to understand how shadows change when you adjust the distance between the light source and an object. Students worked in pairs to predict what would happen, record results, explain their results and evaluate the investigation.
