National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week

Next week our school will acknowledge National Reconciliation Week (May 27th to June 3rd) and reflect on this year’s theme, “All In.” The theme is a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation through learning, listening, respect and meaningful action. Reconciliation is a shared responsibility and requires all of us to work together to build understanding and stronger relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

During this time, we also acknowledge National Sorry Day on 26th May. National Sorry Day recognises the Stolen Generations — Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were forcibly removed from their families, communities and cultures. It is a day to reflect on the ongoing impact of these past government policies and the importance of healing, truth-telling and reconciliation.

Throughout the week, students will participate in learning experiences to deepen understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and perspectives. As a school community, we are encouraged to consider how we can each be “All In” by showing respect, building understanding and taking positive action in our everyday lives.
