FROM THE TEAM
Term 2 in STEM has been all about hands-on learning, exciting experiments, and having fun while exploring new ideas. Students have been actively investigating, building, and testing, using their curiosity to discover how things work. It’s been a term full of energy, creativity, and real-world learning experiences.
PREP
Students have been participating in the unit ‘Weather Around Us’. They have been observing the weather and looking at how it can help us make decisions with what we wear and need to protect us from the elements.
YEAR 1
Students have been exploring the unit ‘Watch It Grow’. They have been understanding and identifying the different parts of plants, planning their own garden and planting their own seeds.
YEAR 2
Year 2s have been creating simple machines to understand how they work in their unit called ‘Rube Goldberg Machines’. This week they have been creating inclined planes and screws.
YEAR 3
Students have been participating in a unit called ‘Bring the Heat’. They have been looking at which materials are the best conductors and how heat moves from hotter things to colder things.
YEAR 4
Students began this term exploring the Delightex program in the unit ‘Sustainability’. They are learning about adding pictures and coding into an online world. Students are learning about the Sustainability Development goals created by the UN and how they can design items to try to fix a problem.
YEAR 5
Students have been participating in the unit, ‘Change Detectives’. They have learnt about the different states of matter - solids, liquids and gases through investigations and experiments.
YEAR 6
Students are exploring the topic of electrical circuits in the topic, ‘Essential Energy and Wired’. They participated in hands on experiments about static electricity and creating electrical circuits using wires, batteries and light globes.
