YEAR 6

FROM THE CLASSROOM

This week in Reading, our Year 6 students have been continue to develop their comprehension through reading news articles and identifying the main idea and summarising, exploring the impact of vocabulary choices, and crafting questions in response to their text. 

In Writing, students have been applying their skills in using descriptive language to build their setting and reflecting character emotions through the setting to write a narrative text. 

In Maths, they have been looking at Shape, exploring shape transformations, tessellation, and cross sections of right prisms. 

During Inquiry, Year 6 has investigated the meaning of citizenship, and the rights and responsibilities of Australian citizenship and of children worldwide.

Recently, RPPS has had a schoolwide focus on respect at school, both in the classroom and on the playground. In Year 6, we have been having regular discussions during circle time and our Wellbeing sessions about what respect looks like, why it’s important, and how we can be respectful even when it’s difficult. We encourage families to continue these conversations with your students at home.

LEARNING INTENTIONS FOR NEXT WEEK

Reading:  

• We are learning to create wonderings on a text we have read. 
• We are learning to understand word choices that create meaning.   
• We are learning to explore the main idea of texts.   
• We are learning to summarise a text that we have read.   
• We are learning to form questions about a text. 

Writing:  

• We are learning to plan our independent narrative. 
• We are learning to incorporate the toolkits in our independent narrative. 
• We are learning to write our setting narrative. 

• We are learning to use our plan to guide our writing.

   

Maths:  

• We are learning to follow the process to add and subtract decimals with internal zeros.
• We are learning to rename decimals.
• We are learning to multiply and divide decimals by powers of 10, 100, 1000s.
• We are learning to describe how the place value changes when we multiply and divide decimals by powers of 10, 100, 1000.

Inquiry:  

• We are learning to understand the structure of government and features of the Australian Democracy.
• We are learning to explore the campaign process and why parties campaign.

Camp Parent Volunteers | Expression of Interest

Dear Families,We are excited to announce that our upcoming school camp at Woorabinda will take place in August. As part of our planning, we are seeking parent volunteers who are available to support the camp and help ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for all students.

We are looking for parents who are able to attend camp on the following dates: 

• 6AEF will attend camp on August 17th-19th
• 6BCDG will attend on the August 19th-21st

If you are interested in volunteering, please email Miss Nash, Miss Marie or your child's classroom teacher. All volunteers must hold a current Working With Children Check (WWCC).

We will contact families once we have finalised the volunteer team. Please note that depending on numbers, we may not be able to take all volunteers, but we truly appreciate every offer of support.
