YEAR 5

FROM THE CLASSROOM
Our Grade 5 students have been working hard in Mathematics, with a strong focus on fractions. They have been developing their understanding of equivalent fractions, as well as practising converting between mixed and improper fractions. Students are building confidence in explaining their thinking and applying their knowledge to a range of problem-solving tasks.
In Writing, students have begun planning their innovation pieces. They are drawing on familiar texts and experimenting with adapting characters, settings, and plot elements to create their own engaging narratives. There has been a strong focus on using the Talk for Writing tools such as using speech and showing characters' emotions to support structure, vocabulary, and creativity, with students showing enthusiasm for developing their ideas.
We are continuing to enjoy our class novel "Once" by Morris Gleitzman. Students are highly engaged in the story and are participating in thoughtful discussions about the characters, themes, and historical context. It has been wonderful to see their empathy and curiosity grow as the narrative unfolds.
In Inquiry, students are exploring the topic of Notable Australians. They have been engaged in researching a range of individuals who have made significant contributions to society. Through this, students are developing their ability to ask meaningful questions, analyse information, and reflect on the qualities and influences that shape a positive identity and impact on others.
Finally a Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mothers, grandmothers and other family members who support our students. Have a safe and relaxing weekend.
