YEAR 2

FROM THE CLASSROOM
It has been wonderful seeing how settled our Year 2 students have been this term. They have done an amazing job following the expectations and routines that were set up in Term 1. This has assisted our teaching and learning immensely! This week in Reading we enjoyed delving into a non-fiction text on Dolphins. The students learned many new words which assisted their understanding of the text. They learned to use the headings and subheadings to summarise parts of the text and determine the main ideas.
In Writing, students finished learning the tools to assist them in great narrative writing. They have begun planning their innovations of the text ‘Anya and The Desert Witch.’ It’s always a fun time for the students to choose their own characters and apply their understanding of the tools to make the story their own.
We began a Measurement Unit in Math this week as well! Using uniform units such as cups, teaspoons and buckets, the students became experts in comparing and measuring the capacity of
various containers.
Our week ended with students excited to take part in the Mother’s Day Stall and anticipating the happy emotions their mums would show when opening their gifts on Sunday.
We too want to wish all the Mums and Aunties a
Happy Mother’s Day this weekend!
