FROM THE CLASSROOM

In Wellbeing we are learning about what respect in the yard looks like, how we can show

respect in the playground and how we play with others.  We are also learning strategies for when we feel angry and how to control the way we express anger.

In Reading, we are practicing identifying interesting words in a chosen mentor text and learning how to find the main idea of a story. This helps us in retelling the story in our own words.

In Writing, we are beginning our innovations of our Talk 4 Writing text ‘Little Red Riding Hood’, where we create our own characters. We’re using adjectives to describe the characters in interesting ways.

‘A tiny, jolly and ugly woodcutter.’ - Deetya 1A

‘A fluffy Godzilla.’ - Anantjot 1A

‘A fat, hot and handsome tiger.’ - Shehzad 1A

During Phonics, we continued to learn 7.2 sounds with: /er/ (river monster cake) and -er suffix. Students look at these sounds through reading and writing tasks.

In Mathematics, we are ordering and investigating capacity using different containers to see which holds more or less. We’re using water, sand, blocks and other items to fill containers and compare which has more or less.

In Inquiry we continue to learn about plants. We are investigating how food is grown and harvested from plants. We are also learning about the 4 seasons and how plants change throughout each season.

'I didn't know that trucks had refrigerators in it to keep food cool.' - Elishah 1H
