Melbourne Museum Excursion

Our Year 7 students recently enjoyed an enriching excursion to the Melbourne Museum, where they deepened their understanding of Earth's structure and ancient civilisations through authentic, hands-on learning experiences that complemented both their Science and Humanities studies. Throughout the day, students explored the ROME: Empire, Power, People, Dynamic Earth, and Our Wondrous Planet exhibitions, gaining valuable insights into the geological processes that shape our planet and the remarkable achievements of one of history's greatest civilisations.

A highlight of the excursion was the Dynamic Earth exhibition, which provided an engaging introduction to the Earth Science concepts students will be studying next term. Through interactive displays, real geological specimens, and fascinating exhibits, students explored topics including rocks and minerals, plate tectonics, volcanoes, earthquakes, and the dynamic forces that continue to shape Earth's surface. The visit gave students the opportunity to see many of these concepts in a real-world context, helping to build curiosity and a deeper understanding before they begin the unit in the classroom. The excursion was a valuable learning experience that encouraged students to make meaningful connections across subject areas while fostering an appreciation for science, history, and the role museums play in preserving and sharing knowledge.
