YEAR 11-12 SCHOOLNEWS

Outdoor Recreation

Our Year 10 and 11 Outdoor Recreation students recently travelled to the stunning Grampians National Park for their introductory base camp during Weeks 2 and 3 of Term 2. This experience marked an important step in preparing students for their upcoming multi-day hike later in the year.

Across the two weeks, students encountered a range of environmental conditions, from mild autumn weather to more challenging cold, wind, and rain. Despite these differences, both groups demonstrated impressive resilience, adaptability, and teamwork as they set up camp, cooked meals, and navigated daily activities.

Throughout the camp, students developed key outdoor skills including tent setup, trangia use, minimal impact practices, and basic navigation. They also strengthened their independence and problem-solving abilities while supporting one another in an unfamiliar environment.

The positive attitude and effort shown by all students were outstanding, and it was pleasing to see their confidence grow over the course of the program. This base camp has provided a strong foundation for their upcoming expedition, and we look forward to seeing them continue to build on these skills in the months ahead.
