Outdoor Recreation - Year 10 & 11

Our Year 10 and 11 Outdoor Recreation students recently travelled to the stunning Grampians National Park for their introductory base camp during Weeks 2 and 3 of Term 2. This experience marked an important step in preparing students for their upcoming multi-day hike later in the year.

Across the two weeks, students encountered a range of environmental conditions, from mild autumn weather to more challenging cold, wind, and rain. Despite these differences, both groups demonstrated impressive resilience, adaptability, and teamwork as they set up camp, cooked meals, and navigated daily activities.

Throughout the camp, students developed key outdoor skills including tent setup, trangia use, minimal impact practices, and basic navigation. They also strengthened their independence and problem-solving abilities while supporting one another in an unfamiliar environment.

The positive attitude and effort shown by all students were outstanding, and it was pleasing to see their confidence grow over the course of the program. This base camp has provided a strong foundation for their upcoming expedition, and we look forward to seeing them continue to build on these skills in the months ahead.

Year 10 Visual Art - ACCA Excursion

Last Thursday, our Year 10 Visual Art students visited Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA) for an inspiring excursion exploring the current exhibition, This is Not the Storm by Julius von Bismarck. Students engaged in hands-on making workshops within the exhibition space, experiencing a range of contemporary art practices and approaches to artmaking firsthand. They also developed their understanding of the professional roles involved in the visual arts industry, learning about curating, installing, and marketing exhibitions. This valuable experience provided students with insight into how galleries operate and supported their preparation for presenting and exhibiting their own student artwork in the future. We would also like to sincerely thank ACCA for generously funding this excursion and providing our students with this valuable opportunity to engage with contemporary art in such a meaningful and professional environment.
