Leader of Year 11 Wellbeing

Ms Rebecca Hines

Year 11 have made an excellent start back this term. It has been wonderful to see so many students thoughtfully engaging with the feedback they received from their teachers after last term’s exam block. Their willingness to reflect, adjust, and improve is already showing in the quality of their classwork and their overall approach to learning.

Founder's Day celebrations

On Friday of Week 2, we celebrated Founder's Day. The day was full of energy, school spirit, and genuine joy across the campus.

Year 11 played a key role in the festivities, running three very popular stalls during the middle session of the day:

  • 11‑1: “The Perfect Pair” Brownies and ice‑cream cups
  • 11‑2: Pizza
  • 11‑3: Soft drinks, kindly donated by the Shelley family

All three stalls were incredibly successful, and this was only possible thanks to the generosity and enthusiasm of our students. Thank you to everyone who donated money, baked brownies, created posters, or volunteered their time on the day.

A special thank you also goes to our Year 11 homeroom teachers, Mrs Vukovic, Mrs Morrison, and Miss Burke, for their organisation, enthusiasm, and leadership in coordinating the stalls. Their efforts helped make the day memorable for the whole school community.

The Resilience Project

This week, Year 11 began reading The Resilience Project: Finding Happiness Through Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness by Hugh van Cuylenburg. As our school already uses The Resilience Project framework, the book gives students a deeper understanding of the principles behind the program and why GEM (Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness) can be so powerful in supporting wellbeing.

Students have already begun discussing the ideas with maturity and insight. Families may enjoy reading the book alongside them, or listening to the audiobook, as it offers practical, relatable strategies that can be used at home as well as at school.

What’s coming up for Year 11

The next few weeks are shaping up to be busy and exciting for Year 11, with several important events on the calendar:

  • Athletics Carnival – Friday, Week 5

Our annual Athletics Carnival is fast approaching, and we are encouraging all students to get involved. Whether they are competing, cheering on their house, or helping with events. It’s a fantastic day for building school spirit, trying something new, and enjoying time outdoors as a cohort.

  • HSC & Careers Expo – Friday, 29 May (Week 6) at Randwick Racecourse

Year 11 will be attending the HSC & Careers Expo later this month. This is a valuable opportunity for students to explore post‑school pathways, speak with universities and training providers, and gather information that will help them make informed decisions heading into Year 12. We encourage students to come prepared with questions and an open mind.

  • Assessment planning and study routines

As more assessment notifications are released, students should be updating their planners and breaking tasks into manageable steps. Establishing consistent weekly revision now will make a significant difference later in the term. We encourage Year 11 to reflect on the last exam block- what worked well? And what do we need to do differently?

  • Balancing commitments

With schoolwork, co‑curricular activities, and personal responsibilities all in the mix, we continue to remind students to maintain healthy routines and seek support early if they need it.
