Brrr…it has turned cold, windy and it feels like Winter already! I hope you are all staying warm.
Thanks to everyone who enthusiastically participated in Education Week last week. It was a great opportunity to celebrate our school and the amazing things that we do and achieve. The grandparents’ morning tea was well attended and it was wonderful to see so many grandparents contributing to activities across the school and sharing their experiences. The students were very proud to show them around and share morning tea with them. Grade 1.2 B made delicious scones to share and the choir entertained everyone.
It was also wonderful to see so many of you at open night. There were also a lot of new families taking a look at our school so I really hope that you took the time to say hello and welcome them within our community. Thank you to all of my staff for their efforts (and sharing their childhood photos! I hope you were all able to guess who was who).
The maths day was a wonderful finish to the week. One of the special aspects is a school like Weeden Heights PS is that we can conduct these whole school days and work together as a community. The students were able to work with students in their house rather than their grade. The had a fun and had an opportunity to work with different students across the school.
We value student voice at Weeden Heights because it is a means to improving student engagement, wellbeing and quality instruction. Students in years 4, 5 and 6 will respond to the Attitudes to School Survey. Year 4’s have finished and the 5/6’s will be completing theirs next week. By completing the survey, the school is able to identify what students think, believe and how they feel about their learning, peers, teachers and Weeden Heights PS.
The Attitudes to School survey is an annual student survey offered by the Department of Education and Training to assist schools in gaining an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. Our school will use the survey results to plan programs and activities to improve your child's schooling experience.
The survey is completed online during school hours and all responses from each student are confidential.
With the arrival of the colder weather there is an increase of colds, COVID and flu at this time of year. Whilst we understand that students want to attend school, it is important that they stay at home and return to school when they are completely well. If your child presents at school with coughs and sniffles, it places all students and staff at risk.
We would really appreciate if our Weeden Heights families with preschoolers coming to school in 2027, could fill in their online enrolment forms and submit them on the Insight Platform. We know that there are a few families out there who have not yet enrolled. If you have neighbours starting school next year, please let them know about the final dates and send them to our office for an enrolment form and a tour.
Schools do have zones however, Weeden Heights is in a position to take students from out of our zoned area as we sit on a very large school site. Please encourage friends and neighbours to take a look at Weeden Heights PS. Our highly successful Bright Beginnings transition program commences at the end of term 3 (Wednesday 9 September 2026) and we do not want our future students to miss the opportunity to attend. Please contact either Amanda or Sarah in our office and collect an enrolment pack for your pre-schooler . Thank you.
Don’t forget that the working bee new date is this Sunday. There are so many weeds in our gardens!!! Anyone who has a spare moment that would like to assist is very welcome to attend. There are many other jobs that need to be completed as well. I sincerely thank you in advance for your attendance. Fingers crossed the weather will be fine.
The King’s Birthday long weekend is coming up 8 June so I hope your family has organised something nice to do together. Weeden Heights PS also has a curriculum day on the next day (9 June) and it is a pupil free day. The staff will be on site completing workshops on the teaching of reading.
Stay warm and healthy everyone! Until next time……
