Year 6 Sacrament of Confirmation
On August 19 2026, The Year 6 students received the Sacrament of Confirmation and I chose the confirmation name Cecilia, after St.Cecilia. Walking up to Father Andrew, I felt nervous because I was thinking I would do something wrong, but then he anointed my forehead with chrism oil and said, 'Be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit'. Preparing for this sacrament changed how I view my faith. It is no longer just something I do because my parents brought me to church. It is now my personal choice. I learned what it means to put Jesus' words into actions outside the walls of the church.

On August 19th, most of the year 6 students had the sacrament of Confirmation. Each student in the year level spent weeks preparing for the day, by choosing a saint and learning to be committed we also went on a retreat for a day and learned about what the sacrament is. Everyone in Year 6 had to learn and come to all the practises of the event even if they weren't Catholic.
Confirmation is you being granted with the 7 gifts of the Holy Spirit including wisdom, fear of the lord, knowledge, piety, understanding, counsel and fortitude.
It is also you making a commitment to being a Catholic.
Some of the things that you need to get confirmed is you must choose a saint name. Whoever you picked, that saint is now an advocate and intercessor for you. You also need to choose someone over the age of 16 to be your sponsor. A sponsor is someone that the candidate will choose to guide themselves through their journey and be there for them. -

Confirmation was a really special event for me. I was actually a little bit nervous before it started because there were so many people there and I didn't want to mess anything up, but I was also super excited to finally take this big step. It was so cool seeing all my friends from school and youth group sitting together in the pews, which made me feel a lot better. Walking into the church and seeing everyone there just for us made me realise how important of a day it really was.
The Sacrament of Confirmation was truly a special milestone. I couldn't imagine experiencing it without my sponsor Laura by my side. As soon as I was anointed with the chrism oil, a deep sense of belonging washed over me. Walking up to Father Andrew to receive this Holy blessing, I looked around at all my classmates and sponsors supporting me on my faith journey, thinking to myself, “I can't believe I’ve finally made it.” It was a beautiful moment that brought a genuine tear to my eye. I felt so blessed and feel I've grown closer to God and my faith family (which includes everyone).

The ceremony was really interesting and fun. The main part was when we went up and had the Holy Chrism oil put on our foreheads, even though my forehead was already naturally really oily anyway!
We renewed our baptismal promises, received a blessing from Father Andrew as we were sealed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. I even got to take part in the Offertory for the Eucharist by bringing the bread up to the altar, which was pretty cool.
After the Mass ended and I took all the pictures with my sponsor, my family and I went home to have a wonderful family meal. Eating dinner together and just hanging out was a really nice and relaxing way to end the day.
