Wakwakurna Kids 2024

which means 'children' in Kaurna

Each class at Modbury School P-6 will soon hold elections for our Student Representative Council. At Modbury, this student council is known as our Wakwakurna.

The Wakwakurna students hold a vital role in fostering a dynamic and inclusive educational environment, serving as a bridge between the student body and the staff. The primary objective of the Wakwakurna is to voice the concerns, share opinions, and bring forward the aspirations of students, thereby ensuring that their perspectives are considered in decision-making processes.

Through regular meetings with staff, and with their class, the Wakwakurna facilitates a democratic process where students actively participate in shaping their educational experience. The Wakwakurna students typically help to organise and coordinate student activities, events, and initiatives, contributing to the overall development of the student community. It serves as a platform for students to engage in leadership roles, develop organizational skills, and cultivate a sense of responsibility.

Wakwakurna is an essential component of student governance here at Modbury, and we look forward to sharing more about their work in the coming weeks.

Warm regards,
